Attorney General Jeff Sessions Gets It Right on the Memo

Attorney General Jeff Sessions listens to a question on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, as he testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing about his role in the firing of James Comey, his Russian contacts during the campaign and his decision to recuse from an investigation into possible ties between Moscow and associates of President Donald Trump. More hot takes, and this one may be my favorite, so far.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has had an opportunity to look at the memo, and his response is several levels of excellent.

So what did he say?

Nobody’s perfect.

Ok. There was a bit more, but if you’re looking for this Trump partisan to fall in the floor screaming about the injustice, that’s not what’s going on.

Said Sessions:

“Congress has made inquiries concerning an issue of great importance for the country and concerns have been raised about the Department’s performance,” he said after its release. “I have great confidence in the men and women of this Department. But no Department is perfect.”

“Accordingly, I will forward to appropriate DOJ components all information I receive from Congress regarding this,” he said. “I am determined that we will fully and fairly ascertain the truth.”

“We work for the American people and are accountable to them and those they have elected,” Sessions added. “We will meet that responsibility.”

That’s about as even of a response as can be given, all things considered.

Again, look for the reactions to be cut fairly evenly along those party lines.

Also look for “leaks” from Democrats, who have their own memo. Or maybe “leaks” that at least seem to be coming from different departments in our intelligence community.

The memo is fairly vanilla, and you can absolutely see that the wording was parsed for maximum outrage.

Now we wait for dueling info drops.
