Turkey's President Erdogan Makes His Own Announcement About Their Embassy in Israel

This is another slap at President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and that our intention is to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem (eventually).

President Tayyip Erdogan, of Turkey, has announced that his country intends to open an embassy in Jerusalem, as well.

That would be EAST Jerusalem, to be specific.

He made the announcement on Sunday, days after a summit of Muslim leaders, where they called for the world to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

In 1967, when some of those same Muslim-led nations rose up against Israel, thinking the fairly recently revived country to be an easy target, they were knocked back, and Israel took claim to that section, later annexing it (although the move is not internationally recognized).

Israel claims Jerusalem as their capital.

That would be all of Jerusalem, so the chances of them allowing a portion to be recognized as the capital of anyone else are slim.

From Reuters:

Erdogan said in a speech to members of his AK Party in the southern province of Karaman that Turkey’s consulate general in Jerusalem was already represented by an ambassador.

“God willing, the day is close when officially, with God’s permission, we will open our embassy there,” Erdogan said.

Jerusalem, revered by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, is home to Islam’s third holiest shrine as well as Judaism’s Western Wall – both in the eastern sector – and has been at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for decades.

Foreign embassies in Israel, including Turkey‘s, are located in Tel Aviv, reflecting Jerusalem’s unresolved status.

The word from the Muslim-nations summit is that Trump’s decision to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel signaled to them that the U.S. has withdrawn itself from its role as a “sponsor of peace.”

You know, because peace was going to break out in the Middle East mere moments before Trump’s announcement.

Gosh darn it! Missed it by thhiissss much!

Here in the real world, we know it to be the pretext by which Palestine and nations that otherwise sponsor terrorism will justify their continued attacks.
