The plan was that President-elect Trump would make an announcement on December 15 to reveal his plans for how he would hand off his business interests to his children, in order to devote himself to the presidency, full time, and with no conflicts of interest.

Then, as reported yesterday, that was changed to some time in January.

Given that the inauguration is in January and there are still many unanswered ethical concerns, you would think that this is a matter that Trump would want taken care of as quickly as possible.

According to Kellyanne Conway, however, the holiday season is partly to blame for the delay.

During a CNN interview Monday evening, Kellyanne Conway said the event will be delayed “a few weeks,” as the Trump Organization decides the best organizing structure for the Trump organization going forward, which will include the transfer of power of Trump’s business to his adult children: Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric.

Except Trump is reportedly attempting to bring Ivanka into his administration, which would cause further ethical concerns.

“It’s a very unconventional situation,” Conway said, saying typically an incoming president is simply a politician moving from one political job to another. “There is no reason to rush that if the procedures are not ready,” she added.

In other words, he doesn’t know what he’s doing, so trying to get him ready is taking longer. He has no idea what he’s legally allowed to do, and this is very likely his stalling for time, as he looks for legal loopholes that will allow him to have his cake and eat it, too.

Do I sound cynical?

“The same questions that will be asked and the same answers that will be provided will just be delayed a few weeks,” Conway said.

This is a lot of double talk in order to say what amounts to: Get ready to climb Scandal Mountain.

If the man’s intentions were to turn his business over to his children, it wouldn’t take a special announcement or weeks to decide. He’s 70 years old, and people retire every day.

Considering some have suggested that he has to sell his Washington D.C. hotel – a likelihood he didn’t plan on before running – that may be the bulk of the delay.

Everything about this delay feels like a man trying to buy time. The holidays are just a convenient excuse.
