Trump can’t seem to keep from shooting himself in the foot.
For the second time during the course of the presidential campaign, Donald Trump invoked the possibility of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s assassination.
Trump, telling a crowd in downtown Miami, Florida, on Friday that Clinton wants to “destroy” their Second Amendment, said the Secret Service detail protecting her should disarm.
“I think they should disarm immediately,” Trump said. “Take their guns away, she doesn’t want guns. Take their— and let’s see what happens to her. Take their guns away. OK, it would be very dangerous.”
It hasn’t been that long ago since he suggested that Second Amendment people might have something to say about Hillary’s liberal SCOTUS picks.
The media and the Clinton team immediately took it to mean he was suggesting gun owners could possibly do something to harm Clinton.
Whether he meant it that way or not, when you’re in politics, where everything you say can, and will be used against you, exercising discretion needs to become second nature.
This latest comment seems to be doubling down on calls for harm to come to the Democrat nominee.
I’ll go as far as to say I actually get what he’s saying.
Liberals are all about their hypocrisy.
Democrat politicians and celebrities will preach on the horrors of guns, call for restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of average citizens, and do so while safely tucked behind their armed security detail.
The notion that if they’re so opposed to guns, they should disarm their security detail and have their guards greet aggression with hugs is amusing to me.
Lead by example, ya know?
That being said, I’m not running for public office. I don’t have a big platform, from which I might influence some of the less stable elements of our society to do something heinous, either directly, or by their interpretation.
Trump shows a reckless disregard for the way his words may motivate those who are loyal to his cause in this dangerous, crazy political climate.
For now, we can just chalk it up to another Trumpism and hope it goes away, quickly.
