It’s a strange world when Megyn Kelly is defending the honor of Donald Trump.
That, or perhaps the whole kerfuffle between she and Trump early along in the primary process was simply a well-choreographed bit of stage play, in order to up ratings and keep Trump in the spotlight.
Meanwhile, Kelly was in full snark mode over the news that Senator Ted Cruz would be speaking at the GOP convention this month.
On Kelly’s show on Thursday night, Kelly questioned why Cruz met with Trump and is agreeing to speak at the convention. “Ted Cruz, who the last day of the primary came out and just annihilated Trump, saying, ‘I’m going to tell you what I really think of him’, and then, you know, just spewed the most hateful, vile things he could think of. And now we’re supposed to listen to him speak at the convention like he’s some credible witness for Trump’s presidency?” Kelly said.
“Hmm. I wonder how the women of America are going to react to Ted Cruz getting up there and saying, you know, good things about the man who insulted Ted Cruz’s own wife and her appearance,” Kelly added later.
Kelly seems to be under the impression, as some others are, that the GOP convention is less about the party and more about stroking Trump’s ego. The idea that some actual conservative minds on the bill might distract from the sideshow idiocy that Trump and friends are promising to bring seems upsetting to her.
Heaven forbid we actually insert any substance into the event.
In an interview with Glenn Beck on Friday morning, Senator Cruz gave his own thoughts on Kelly’s comments.
“I didn’t watch what she said and If I got dismayed every time somebody on Fox News attacked me, you know what, life is too short to worry about, that is an institution that can express its own corporate opinions, and it has done so at great volume during the course of the primaries. And I’m not going to worry about their attacks. Our country is in an extremely challenging position right now, and there are a lot of people who played an active role in putting us in this position,” Cruz said.
There really are a lot of people who need to be held accountable for the position we’re in. Start with Roger Ailes and Fox News, and you’re on the right track.
“Our country’s facing enormous challenges, and I do not believe it is the responsible choice for conservatives to shy away from defending the principles we believe in, from talking about who America is and how we go forward to get on a better path, and that’s what I intend to do at the convention,” Cruz said. “If it is the case that Megyn or anyone else decides that’s a reason to attack me, because I’m willing to literally speak to Republicans at our national convention, then that is a curious position.”
Speak to Republicans at a Republican convention? Novel idea, but it just may work!
Back in May, the Texas senator called out Fox for their blatant Trump cheerleading.
“There is a broader dynamic at work, which is network executives have made a decision to get behind Donald Trump. Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes at Fox News have turned Fox News into the Donald Trump network,” Cruz told reporters at a news conference.
That was as true then as it is now. Fox owns the debacle that’s coming. They are proof that our news networks are no longer about news and more about entertainment, fantasy, and ratings. Cruz, nor anyone else speaking at the convention should feel compelled to bow to Trump. They should, however, try to contrast their words against those of Trump, in order to give some hope that there are still rational members of the party.
