Because pettiness is one of the fruits of the Spirit that Christians should display.
Oh, wait…
In the latest episode of Trump being Trump, he further illustrates how he intends to turn next month’s GOP convention into a coronation of himself, rather than a meeting of delegates and the promotion of the Republican platform, moving forward towards November’s general election.
Emperor Trump has deemed former rivals, Governor John Kasich and Senator Ted Cruz as unworthy to speak at the convention, unless they bend the knee and kiss the ring.
The Hill reports today:
“If there’s no endorsement, then I would not invite them to speak,” Trump said.
Trump’s comments come as his campaign and the Republican National Committee work to ensure next month’s convention goes as smoothly as possible.
To date, Kasich and Cruz have withheld any endorsements, with Kasich going so far as to say that he and nominee Trump have different ideas about government, and he just doesn’t know if he can actively endorse him.
Several movements have been rumbling in the underground, seeking to deny Trump the nomination by delegate revolt at the convention. Trump, however, has been emboldened by the cult-like grip he has on his supporters.
“You mean to tell me we’re going to get the largest vote in his history of the Republican primaries and now the same people that either didn’t run or get beaten in a landslide are going to try and back-end?” Trump said.
“My supporters are tremendously loyal to me. They would not stand for it.”
There is no specific proof that any one candidate is seeking to win the nomination by revolt, though several names have been offered by the #NeverTrump groups leading the movement.
For his part, Trump hopes to control the convention by turning it from something where he’s completely out of his element – politics – to something he’s had more experience with: Entertainment.
At a rally earlier this month, Trump said he would rather have athletes speak at the convention instead of politicians, seeming to take issue with speeches that don’t center on the nominee.
“What I’m thinking about doing for the convention is rather [than] these politicians, you know — they’re gonna get up and speak and speak and speak,” Trump said at a rally in Richmond, Va. “You remember last time with [Mitt] Romney, all these politicians got up and they kept speaking and they didn’t mention Romney’s name. They spoke — one guy spoke for like 45 minutes. He never mentioned Romney’s name.”
“Well we’re going to do it a little differently, if it’s OK.
So far, everything about this election season is different, but not in a good way.
