News Summary From the Week That Was (8 – 14 March)

(AP Photo/Kim Kwang Hyon, File)

This is a weekly summary of news that the legacy media and Democrats have obfuscated for partisan political reasons.

1. Let’s start off with the continuing saga of the Obama DoJ/FBI FISA abuse.

For much of the last three years, key law enforcement leaders have insisted they did nothing wrong in pursuing counterintelligence surveillance warrants targeting the Trump campaign starting during the 2016 election. And, they’ve added, if mistakes were made, they were unintentional process errors downstream from them and not an effort to deceive the judges.

But in a little-noted passage in a recent order, U.S. District Judge James A. Boasberg, the new chief judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, took direct aim at the excuses and blame-shifting of these senior Obama administration FBI and DOJ officials.

In just 21 words, Boasberg provided the first judicial declaration the FBI had misled the court, not just committed process errors. “There is thus little doubt that the government breached its duty of candor to the Court with respect to those applications,” Boasberg wrote.

2. The Wuhan virus has exposed the soft underbelly of global supply chains. Here’s the solution for pharmaceuticals.

Though coronavirus has only begun to show up in America, it’s already exposed the nation’s serious over-reliance on China for pharmaceutical production. As Washington looks to address that, it should consider killing two birds with one stone by using the issue as a chance to give Puerto Rico a leg up.

After all, the island was for decades a central hub of US drug manufacturing. It would do the commonwealth and the mainland a world of good to restore that preeminence.

About 90 percent of the active ingredients (manufactured “precursors”) used by US drugmakers now come from China. With that country’s factories largely shut down by the outbreak, America’s pharmaceutical supplies are at risk even as the virus hits here. The Food and Drug Administration fears a shortage of widely used generic drugs.

Moving to ensure some domestic capacity for future crises is a no-brainer. And boosting Puerto Rico, now struggling with a debt crisis plus hurricane and earthquake damage, should be one, too.

3. Drip, drip, drip: Obamacare is disappearing.

At the end of 2019, Congress repealed three significant tax components of the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. Each of them had been included in the initial legislation to raise the revenue required to pay for the new spending the law called for.

The biggest of the three was the so-called Cadillac tax, which was expected to raise about $197 billion over the next decade. Congress also nixed the law’s health insurance tax, projected to raise $150 billion over 10 years, and the medical device tax, projected to raise $25.5 billion. All three taxes were eliminated as part of a $1.4 trillion year-end budget bill that President Donald Trump signed at the last possible minute in order to keep the government open.

4. More leftwing hypocrisy in Academia is exposed here.

Yale psychiatrist Bandy Lee has repeatedly called Trump mentally unfit for office, despite the fact that she has never even met him. This has been widely condemned as an ethical violation of her profession.

As concerns grow about Joe Biden’s mental health, Lee is now refusing to apply the same standard to the former Vice President.

It becomes increasingly clear that Lee is using her position to influence politics for purely partisan reasons.

How does the Yale administration justify this?

Read the rest here. They can’t, of course, nor do they want to, as they are of the same political persuasion.

5. Keep “asylum seekers” in Mexico until their cases are resolved. Good!

The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to continue enforcing an immigration policy requiring asylum seekers at the southern U.S. border to wait in Mexico while their cases are considered.

The court on Wednesday granted an emergency request by the administration to leave the program in place for now while legal proceedings continue. The order blocks the effect of a lower-court decision that said the administration must stop implementing the policy.

6. “Russia collusion” was a hoax from the very beginning, and now it’s clear that the FBI knew in January 2017!

The piecemeal release of FBI files in the Russia collusion investigation has masked an essential fact: James Comey’s G-men had substantially debunked the theory that Donald Trump’s campaign conspired with Moscow by the time the 45th president was settling into the Oval Office, according to declassified memos, court filings and interviews.

And that means a nascent presidency and an entire nation were put through two more years of lacerating debate over an issue that was mostly resolved in January 2017 inside the bureau’s own evidence files. The proof is now sitting in plain view.

In rapid fire sequence in January 2017, U.S. officials:

  • received multiple warnings about the credibility of informant Christopher Steele and his dossier;

  • affirmed key targets of the FBI counterintelligence investigation made exculpatory statements denying collusion to undercover sources;

  • concluded retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser, was not engaged in collusion with the Russians.

Read the rest here. Imagine the consequences! The Democrats could not have possibly taken over control of the House in 2018 if this had been disclosed in early 2017, and the impeachment farce would not have happened.

7. The civil war inside the Democrat Party is continuing.

The Democratic Party is in a very “dangerous” position at this point of the 2020 presidential election, CNN’s Van Jones warned Tuesday evening.

With the so-called “Joe-Mentum” seemingly in full swing after former Vice President Joe Biden’s sweep of the “Super Tuesday II” primary races, Jones emphasized that the left should be reaching out to voters who have been left behind.

“You have now an insurgency that’s about to be defeated. What do you do with the people that you defeat?” he asked.

8. Republicans are taking concrete actions to combat voter fraud in various states.

Republicans are escalating their $10 million war on Democratic efforts to challenge voting ballot laws in several states that could lead to election rigging for Democrats in states key to President Trump’s reelection.

Late Tuesday, the Republican National Committee and Minnesota Republican Party moved to “intervene as defendants” in a Minnesota case to help fend off a suit brought by the ACLU, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

It came after the RNC and Michigan Republican Party went to bat for two Michigan laws challenged by Democrats in a bid to ease voting in ways that Republicans believe will open the door to ballot manipulation.

9. The Chinese Communists withheld important information about the Wuhan virus.

A Wuhan doctor who posted information about the new coronavirus on social media that was shared by the late whistle-blower Li Wenliang has broken her silence, saying she was muzzled by authorities for raising the alarm without their permission at the start of the outbreak.

Ai Fen, director of the emergency department at Wuhan Central Hospital, told Chinese magazine People that she posted an image of a diagnostic report on social network WeChat on December 30, showing that the patient had a pneumonia infection caused by a Sars-like coronavirus.

Ai’s interview suggests local health authorities in Wuhan, the centre of the epidemic, missed an opportunity to issue a warning about an imminent outbreak before the virus spread and infected more than 117,000 people globally and caused over 4,200 deaths.

Read the rest here. Because this is what Commies do – refuse to admit mistakes and avoid embarrassing their regimes at all costs.

10. The Wuhan virus is being politically exploited by the Democrat Party, but it won’t work out the way they think it will, as explained here.

It’s clear that the Democrats see the coronavirus outbreak as an opportunity rather than an epidemic. Having failed to bring down President Trump with ridiculous conspiracy theories involving Russia and Ukraine, they are desperately attempting to convince the public that he is somehow exacerbating the COVID-19 crisis. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, for example, issued a joint press release Sunday that included the following fiction: “President Trump continues to manufacture needless chaos within his administration and it is hampering the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.” Predictably, Pelosi and Schumer fail to provide any objective facts to support this claim.

It is far more likely that, by the time the election rolls around next November, the actual effect of the outbreak will be known and it will probably have been far less severe than predicted. The voters will by then be aware that the current Democratic rhetoric was a grotesquely cynical ploy to mislead and frighten the public for the usual tawdry political purposes. This will render Democrats clinging to House seats in “Trump districts” even more vulnerable than they are at present.

When it becomes obvious that the Democrats have cynically exploited this serious public health risk in one last attempt to damage Trump, the voters will react with revulsion. They will reelect Trump and return the leadership of the House to his party.

Read the rest here. It will be epic to watch the panic in the Democrat Party this summer as the Wuhan virus crisis fades precipitously.

11. This is an excerpt from an ongoing multi-part examination of Democrats, Progressives and Socialists.

I started watching Fox News two years ago when a liberal friend told me that Fox News is the channel for fake news. I’m a curious guy and so I wanted to find out what fake news is all about and so I started watching Fox. In three years, I haven’t seen a single fake news article on Fox. All I have found is the actual news, something that I wasn’t getting, although I didn’t know it at the time, on NBC. Real news reported on Fox that the liberals don’t like is labeled “fake news.”

I now have learned firsthand about how MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS shape the news in favor of the Left and present the absolute worst view of anything conservative. Omission bias is the number one tool of the leftwing press; it leaves out anything that looks good for President Trump or conservatives, and leaves out anything that looks bad for the Left. It’s actually disgusting and unless you take the effort to watch both liberal and conservative channels, you won’t see it.

The reason that the comparison of news inputs is asymmetrical is because liberals have no opportunity to consistently hear a conservative view unless they make an effort to do so, and very few make that effort.

Read the rest here. That was really insightful; I’m going to have to find and read the other parts!

Here are this week’s “honorable mention” articles:

While the legacy media remain fixated on hyping the Wuhan virus crisis as their next gambit to “get Trump,” there was obviously a lot of other important news and commentary that transpired this week: the going civil war in the Democrat Party, Biden’s apparent mental degeneration in real-time, the ChiComs exposure on Wuhan (in more ways than one), more insights on Obama regime FBI/DoJ FISA abuse, cleaning out the intelligence community, and Supreme Court picks by President Trump who are starting to pay dividends in ending lawfare practiced by Democrats/the Left. We need to keep our eyes on many other issues than the Wuhan virus.

The end.
