Democrats (and other assorted leftists) are big on conspiracy theories and myths because those play a big part in their political bag of tricks. Why is that so? Because their rank-and-file are generally uninformed and easily influenced to believe the most outlandish theories and are likewise resistant to facts that disprove those theories and myths. Remember Hillary’s “vast right-wing conspiracy”? Here’s a little refresher about that in the context of the 2016 presidential campaign. More recently, we tackled Rachel Maddow, the queen bee for leftist conspiracy theories, and her “Mr. Banana” myth here.

President Trump seems to bring out the worst in Democrats and the legacy media, who have dug deep to create and propagate a lot of whoppers over the past three years. What are some of those that have been debunked in the Age of Trump? Let’s take a look.

1. Trump will crash the economy. Nobel laureate Paul Krugman led a passel of “experts” who claimed that President Trump would “destroy” the economy. Krugman insisted that “Trump will bring global recession.” The Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the number of employed Americans — 158,803,000 — set a 25th record under President Trump. Year to year — since December 2018 — 1,858,000 more workers have been added to American payrolls.

2. Russians affected the outcome of the 2016 election. No one has ever made the case that a single vote was changed by the paltry Russian meddling in the 2016 election. By “paltry,” I mean the $600K invested by a Russian-run internet company plus 6 Russian GRU officers. This is a myth frequently repeated by Hillary Clinton and her allies, who refuse to come to grips with the fact that she got beat. And that is precisely what the Senate concluded in a 2018 report as noted here.

3. Trump is Putin’s puppet. How many times have we heard that one over the past three years since Hillary Clinton made that claim during the 2016 debates? First of all, there’s this quote from AG Barr’s press conference after the release of the Mueller report: “After nearly 2 years of investigation, thousands of subpoenas, and hundreds of warrants and interviews, the special counsel confirmed that the Russian government-sponsored efforts to interfere with the 2016 elections but did not find that the Trump campaign or any Americans colluded in that effort.” Furthermore, President Trump (unlike Obama) provided lethal military aid to Ukraine and unleashed the US oil and gas industry, which amounts to de facto economic warfare against Russia, which earns much of its foreign currency through oil and gas sales. This conspiracy theory is further debunked here, as well as the motivations of those who persist in repeating the myth:

4. Firing FBI Director James Comey was obstruction of justice. Alan Dershowitz debunked that conspiracy theory early in 2017 here, but what we have subsequently learned about Comey’s actions before he was fired, as detailed in the Horowitz report makes clear that Comey was fired for cause. Comey destroyed the integrity of the FBI by being complicit in the authorization of those four false FISA warrant applications. Comey’s firing was ENTIRELY justified – and lawful.

5. Global warming is melting all the glaciers. That’s been propagated by the climate alarmists for years, never mind that we’ve already endured 50 years of their false predictions as noted here. Then there is this return to insanity by the US Department of Interior, as reported here: “Officials at Glacier National Park (GNP) have begun quietly removing and altering signs and government literature which told visitors that the Park’s glaciers were all expected to disappear by either 2020 or 2030.” Yet another false prediction to add to the list!

6. Eric Ciaramella was a whistleblower. Some extended remarks are necessary for this one due to the Democrats’ persistent propagation of this myth. Ciaramella continues to be referred to as a whistleblower by Democrats, their lickspittle media, and even by elected Republicans, despite the fact that Fox News legal analyst Greg Jarrett debunked that notion months ago. Here is what Jarrett said:

[As I] explained in a column six weeks ago, the so-called “whistleblower” is not a whistleblower at all. The complaint he filed against President Trump does not meet the two requisite conditions set forth in the ICWPA. That is, the alleged wrongful conduct must involve intelligence activity and it must be committed by a member of the intelligence community.

This was meticulously explained in an 11-page opinion by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) when it issued the following opinion: “The president is not a member of the intelligence community, and his communication with a foreign leader involved no intelligence operation or other activity aided at collecting or analyzing foreign intelligence.”

The OLC opinion made it clear that the complaint by the so-called “whistleblower” regarding Ukraine was so deficient that Congress should never have been notified. The acting director of national intelligence agreed with this assessment. The legal analysis and reasoning was sound.

To put it plainly, there is no whistleblower statute that permits an unelected and inferior federal employee to blow the whistle on the president, the most superior officer in the U.S. government.

Article II of the Constitution gives the president sweeping power to conduct foreign affairs, negotiate with leaders of other nations, make requests or solicit information.

The Constitution does not grant the power of review, approval or disapproval to bureaucratic employees. Indeed, the whistleblower law explicitly excludes a complaint involving “differences of opinion concerning public policy matters.”

7. Al-Baghdadi was an austere religious scholar. Remember when the Washington Post referred to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, as an “austere religious scholar” after he was killed in October 2019 (he blew his children and himself up with a suicide vest to avoid capture by US special forces)? The response by the legacy media then is virtually identical to the response by them now to the drone attack that killed IRGC-Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and Kata’ib Hezbollah founder and leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Fortunately, sane people heaped ridicule on the WaPo after they posted that reference to the murderous Al-Baghdadi, as noted here (this particular myth didn’t last very long).

8. It is “urgent” to impeach President Trump. In the immediate aftermath of Nancy Pelosi’s decision to hold the Articles of Impeachment rather than send them to the Senate, not even the most pro-Pelosi hacks in existence could make the case for the strategy. Now that she has destroyed that narrative, it would appear that she is caving to pressure and will be sending them to the Senate “in due course.” So much for the Democrat lie of “urgency.”

9. The Iranian SRBMs purposely missed their targets. At present, Iranian SRBMs are area – not precision-strike – weapons. They didn’t “miss on purpose.” As noted here, “Iran’s current ballistic missile systems may lack the mix of accuracy and lethality to hit point targets with anything approaching predictable effectiveness.” There’s a lot more at that linked article that details Iranian ballistic and cruise missile capabilities that is worth reading.

10. Ukraine Flight 752 ran out of gas and crashed. Well, that’s not exactly what the Iranians were saying. They actually started out claiming “mechanical failures” until confronted with evidence that the airliner was shot down by a Russian-made SA-15 surface to air missile, after which point they finally admitted it and “expressed regret.” Although the Iranians obviously knew that from the very beginning and tried to cover it up – including bulldozing the evidence to keep it from the Ukrainian crash investigators and others – Democrats and Democrat operatives in the media are blaming President Trump for the tragedy, which is the real myth in play here. Completely disgraceful, but then, that is to be expected from Democrats these days as they seek political advantage even through tragedies. Despicable.
