News Summary from the Week that Was (22 – 28 December)

This is my weekly summary of news that the legacy media and Democrats have obfuscated for partisan political reasons.

1. Let’s start off with more on former FBI Director James Comey, courtesy of the Horowitz report:

Details revealed in the Justice Department’s inspector general report raise immediate questions about disgraced ex-FBI Director James B. Comey’s repeated decision to push back against requests from President Donald Trump to investigate the origins of the infamous “pee” claim made inside the anti-Trump dossier. The IG report relates that the FBI not only investigated those salacious claims but divined the origins of the outlandish charges, finding serious sourcing problems and poking major holes in the already wild and unsubstantiated storyline.

Comey’s classified briefing was subsequently leaked to the news media, with CNN on January 10, 2017 breaking the story that the contents of the dossier were presented during classified briefings one week earlier to Trump and then-President Barack Obama. Prior to CNN’s report leaking the briefings, which was picked up by news agencies worldwide, the contents of the dossier had been circulating among some major news media outlets, but the sensational claims were largely considered too risky to publish.

Comey’s briefing seems to have provided the news media with the hook to publish a story on the controversial dossier containing the infamous “Russian prostitute” claims as well as unsubstantiated charges of collusion between Russia and members of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

2. This article nails what we should be most concerned about given the Democrat Party’s corruption of federal agencies and rush to impeachment under false pretenses.

Partisan rancor is what we should expect when a great variety of free people are given the right to participate in political discourse. The greater threat to our republic is the centralization of power and the corruption of federal agencies of the sort we now know took place for three years in the FBI, DOJ, and CIA, which were weaponized to destroy a political candidate and president who represented an America that the political guild disliked. Such corruption of centralized and concentrated power is precisely what the Founders feared. Typical were the remarks of Benjamin Franklin during the Constitutional Convention.

While discussing compensation for the president, Franklin cautioned against adding greed for money to the already potent attraction of political power: “There are two passions which have a powerful influence on men. These are ambition and avarice; the love of power, and the love of money.” When united, these have “the most violent effects.” They lead, as they had in England, to “all of those factions which are perpetually dividing the Nation, distracting its councils, hurrying sometimes into fruitless and mischievous wars.”

3. Here is a great article about the creeping fascism that the Left is aggressively bringing to America.

For those who think the American Civil Liberties Union and other liberal watchdogs ceaselessly monitor our government to ensure our Bill of Rights and laws are not abused to the detriment of citizens, they should be sorely disappointed. The Left has redefined “civil liberties” to mean “correct thinking.” Thus, incorrect thinking is not protected speech or behavior. Few on the Left feel that it was either morally or legally wrong for Hillary Clinton to hire a foreign national to spy on her opponent’s campaign, much less for a foreign national Christopher Steele to interfere in a U.S. election.

Laws are fluid, to be enforced when they champion the “good,” to be ignored or subverted when they empower the “bad.” That is why both Clapper and Brennan—who in the past alike have admitted to lying to Congress while under oath—were rewarded with paid analyst positions, respectively with CNN and MSNBC.

Brennan, Clapper, Comey, and McCabe are iconic figures to the Left, who were willing to use any means necessary to stop the fiendish Trump. Comey’s idea of “a higher loyalty” proves to be a euphemism for taking the law into one’s own hands to destroy an elected president deemed a threat to status-quo agendas. If and when fascism comes to America, it will not arrive with jackboots, stiff arms, and military uniforms. The attempt to suppress political opposition in anti-constitutional fashion, to regiment the economy by denying constitutionally protected freedoms, and the efforts to change the Constitution to reflect political utility, will come under the auspices of “equality,” “fairness,” “saving the planet,” and “social justice”—as a way to combat “climate change,” “racism,” “homophobia,” and “sexism.”

Read the rest here. This is what the Left’s politically correct nonsense is all about: silencing and ultimately prosecuting anyone who dissents from leftist orthodoxy.

4. The big panda just blinked again. More winning in the Age of Trump!

China said Monday it will reduce tariffs Jan. 1 on more than 850 foreign products including frozen pork, asthma medications and some high-tech components to spur economic development. The announcement followed an interim trade agreement with Washington in a tariff war that has rattled financial markets. The step adds to a series of tariff cuts over the past two years that Beijing says are aimed at improving supplies of consumer goods and encouraging competition. Chinese officials say they should not be seen as concessions to U.S. pressure.

5. Kurt Schlichter reminds us that we shouldn’t interrupt the Democrats to remind them of their impending doom next November. Here is just one juicy tidbit in a great opinion piece.

Impeachment is super popular…in Brooklyn, Washington and Santa Monica. The savvy play is, of course, to run up the popular vote total in New York, D.C. and California because, of course, the popular vote picks the president. Just ask Her Highness Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit if you can catch her between hearty swigs of screw-top Trader Joe’s Chardonnay.

But impeachment isn’t so popular in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In fact, it’s downright unpopular. And extendo-impeachment games are not gonna help. The Democrat’s lesson? Ignore these meaningless blotches on the map. Hell, Wisconsin doesn’t even actually exist. Just ask President Stumbles McMyturn.

Read the rest here. There is much more in this entertaining article, but we should not be complacent.

6. John McCain’s role as a conduit for the fake Steele dossier was confirmed by the Horowitz report.

Late Senator John McCain provided disgraced former FBI chief James Comey with five separate reports from Christopher Steele that the FBI didn’t previously possess related to unsubstantiated allegations of collusion between Russia and President Trump’s 2016 campaign, the Justice Department’s recent Inspector General report revealed. The IG report also verifies that a McCain aid obtained the Steele reports directly from Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, meaning that when McCain transferred the anti-Trump charges to Comey, he had to have known that the material originated with a firm that specializes in controversial opposition tactics.

Read the rest here. That people continue to admire McCain is beyond my comprehension.

7. This corruption strikes at the heart of the Democrat Party and explains much about Democrat and media hysteria in insisting that Ukraine corruption is a debunked story.

Rudy Giuliani alleged Monday that former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch “quashed” a corruption investigation into the disappearance of foreign aid because the Obama Administration was funneling the money to non-governmental organizations run by left-wing billionaire George Soros.

Giuliani, President Trump’s personal attorney, recently returned from a fact-finding mission in Ukraine, and discussed his findings in an interview with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk for his podcast. He said the reason the probe was quashed was because instead of giving the money to the government, the U.S. Embassy was giving it to NGOs (nonprofit organizations that operate independently of government) run by left-wing billionaire George Soros and his children.

Read the rest here. And yet every Democrat in creation bleats that the Ukrainian corruption story has been “debunked.” Baloney!

8. Impeachment frenzy is a figment of the Democrats’ imagination – NOT what they expected!

The New York Times, the Democrats, and some others would have you believe that this impeachment is making history. It isn’t. Even a huge, screaming headline in the biggest type possible cannot lend suspense or importance to an event that began three years ago and whose outcome was never in doubt. The war to impeach President Trump has been waged at full throttle since 2016. And so, an inflection point in late 2019 is not all that striking, especially since the next stage in the drama will be to return the whole thing to the status quo ante.

Read the rest here. Analysis: true. And the polls reflect that reality.

9. This article is a window into the cultural Marxism that continues to infest the public school system, in this case, the perversion of American history taught from a Marxist point of view. The media have hidden this ongoing travesty for years.

On “Giving Tuesday,” the Zinn Education Project, a non-profit that provides free downloadable K-12 lessons adapted from the late communist historian Howard Zinn’s bestselling history, A People’s History of the United States, solicited donations. Proudly announcing that the 100,000 mark of teachers registered at the site had been reached, the email declared, “We depend solely on individuals like you for support” and “the Zinn Education Project receives no corporate donations. We depend on individual donations and family foundations.”

The lessons encourage classroom use of Zinn’s “history,” a book first published in 1980 and riddled with deceptive quotations, leading questions, critical omissions, logical fallacies, plagiarism, and blatant falsehoods. The Zinn empire continues to grow, thanks in no small part to its escalating use in classrooms, aided by the revision of the Advanced Placement U.S. History course guidelines to the far-left during the Obama administration. The entire Portland, Oregon, school district has adopted A Young People’s History of the United States for eighth grade.

Read the rest here. Keep in mind that before the impeachment vote last week, 700 historians signed a letter to House of Representatives imploring the House to vote for impeachment. These fools are teaching the next generation, folks.

10. By all accounts, the FISC is complicit in the FISA abuse, and actions taken subsequent to the release of the Horowitz report are paltry at best.

Earlier this month, the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) ordered the FBI to re-verify all previous warrant applications involving the FBI attorney who falsified evidence against the former Trump campaign aide Carter Page. However, Fox News has learned the court did not order the FBI to double-check warrant applications involving other officials who made key omissions and errors in warrant applications as the bureau sought to surveil Page.

The FISC’s failure to request a comprehensive evaluation of previous submissions has stunned court-watchers who have questioned whether enough is being done to deter future misconduct by the FBI. In the past, the FISC has gone so far as to prohibit some FBI agents from appearing before the court after finding impropriety.

11. Finally, here is the best year-end summary of the impeachment farce that I have read, as well as where things stand for the Democrats who foisted this charade on the country.

Having dragged its media lackeys and the dwindling curiosity of the country through an absurd burlesque of a “solemn, sad,” impeachment process—without alleging any actual illegalities—the NeverTrump campaign has rushed through in a procedural Star Chamber because of the “urgency” of removing the president before the country reelects him.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will not send the articles of impeachment to the Senate until Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) promises to go to court and oblige administration witnesses to testify, a step the trained Democratic seals of the House declined to take because of the urgency of trial and removal of the president. Finally, the revelation appears to have been noticed by the speaker, just ahead of the arrival of Santa Claus, that the Democrats have no case against the president, are slipping in the polls, and that the last stand of the argument that a moral imperative makes Trump clearly unfit to serve in the great office to which he was elected, has crumbled.

The Democrats started late, after years of huffing and puffing. They failed to impress anyone, came up empty, produced and passed a pack of lies as an argument for impeachment. Now they are trying to assert constitutional rights they do not possess and a moral authority they squandered years ago to deprive the Senate of the control over an impeachment trial which the Constitution clearly reserves to the upper chamber.

The Democrats and their frenzied claque of media harpies foisted the Trump-Russia collusion fraud on the country, followed by a vapid, phony impeachment investigation which has produced meritless allegations of inoffensive offenses, and now they would virtually dictate a process, if not a verdict, from the Republican-controlled Senate. No, not again—not even if all the media’s junkyard dogs bark and wag their tails in unison again.

Let the fools’ carnival of unfeasible candidates elevate the designated Democratic piñata for this successful if edgy president to hammer through the election campaign. And let the Democrats finally cease their howls of moral outrage against Trump and prepare their explanations for the indictments that are likely to emerge from the special counsel investigation of the illicit spying conducted against the Trump campaign and transition team, and the assorted legal and ethical lapses of the Obama Justice Department and the Clinton campaign. They have had their full share of public attention for their defamatory nonsense; they laid this rotten egg of impeachment and they can take full responsibility for the stench of it.

Here are this week’s “honorable mention” articles:

Another incredible week ended. The Democrats are hell-bent on marching over the political cliff to their collective doom in November 2020. Bon voyage! Will San Fran Nan actually submit the tainted articles of impeachment to the Senate? Odds are she may just sit on them. The Horowitz report continues to provide golden nuggets of shock and awe regarding FBI criminality, and we know that US Attorney Durham is well into his criminal investigation that will doubtless use some  of what was in that report as guideposts for his work.

President Trump’s poll numbers are up, the economy is going gang-busters, and the Democrats’ Star Wars bar scene (presidential candidates) are about a lackluster a bunch as could be imagined. This is a heck of a time to be alive and paying attention to current events! Stay tuned, and Happy New Year!

The end.
