A handful of House Republicans joined forces with Democrats Wednesday to shield New Jersey Democrat LaMonica McIver from facing any professional consequences of her assault on a federal agent outside a Newark, N.J., detention center.
McIver, who sits (heavily and widely) on the Homeland Security Committee that oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement, showed up at a Newark detention center claiming she was doing "oversight" but neglected to follow Homeland Security protocol and good manners by asking for an appointment.
A federal grand jury has since indicted McIver on three counts of "forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officers."RELATED:
LaMonica McIver Gives Up the Game in Comments Made After Court Appearance – RedState
On Wednesday, Louisiana Republican Clay Higgins introduced a resolution censuring McIver for her conduct and ejecting her from the Homeland Security Committee.
- Whereas such actions constitute a violation of section 111(a)(1) of title 18, United States Code, relating to assaulting, resisting, impeding, and interfering with a Federal officer;
- Whereas clause 1 of rule XXIII of the Rules of the House of Representatives provides, “A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall behave at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.”;
- Whereas such actions of a Member of the House of Representatives do not reflect creditably on the House; and
- Whereas Representative McIver’s continued service on the Committee on Homeland Security, which is charged with oversight of Federal immigration enforcement and other national security matters, would represent a significant conflict of interest:
This would seem to be a slam dunk. McIver has been indicted on federal charges that could get her a decade in prison. She's on the Homeland Security Committee, and the fact that she's indicted on felony charges should be enough to bar her from seeing classified information. Her conduct at Newark revealed a deep loathing for immigration enforcement and anyone associated with it. Well, that's not what happened.
By a vote of 215 to 207, Higgins's motion was defeated.
Five Republicans voted with the Democrats to defend McIver.

Representatives Andrew Garbarino (New York's 2d District was carried by Trump 56-43) and Nathaniel Moran (Texas's 1st District went for Trump 75-24) voted present.
According to Breitbart, some of the votes in favor of McIver were because those Members favored waiting until the Ethics Committee finishes its report. Which is a lot like saying you're waiting on the Crack of Doom. One of the votes for McIver pleaded stupidity as a defense.
Turner’s representative said he mistakenly voted against the resolution, which would not have changed the outcome of the vote, Politico reported.
Many years ago, Peyton Manning did a spoof of a United Way public service announcement for Saturday Night Live.
"I'm sorry, do you wanna lose?"
These people don't seem to realize that we are engaged in a real war for cultural survival. People like McIver don't like America; they don't like what America stands for, and they want to hurt America. The fact that we have people who would allow her to continue on the Homeland Security Committee out of some process preference is ridiculous. I hope someone is taking notes and recruiting replacements for 2026.
