Friday, New Mexico's Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an executive order declaring a "public health crisis" due to "gun violence," see New Mexico Governor Declares Emergency, 'Suspends' Gun Rights in Shocking Move. The executive order suspends the right to carry firearms in public for 30 days in Albuquerque and the surrounding county. At the end of thirty days, the ban may be extended. This decision is in reaction to three highly publicized child murders over a 45-day period during a time when Albuquerque's murder rate is below that of the last two years.
There has been a lot of outcry over her actions. For her part, Lujan Grisham is very clear that she knows her order is unconstitutional, and that is a feature, not a bug, of the action (The Constitution Is Just a Piece of Paper).

This abuse of a public health emergency declaration is only surprising if you've not been paying attention to what the progressives have been saying and doing.
Back in June 2020, when Anthony Fauci was an adorable lawn gnome, COVID was going to kill literally everyone on the planet, and I hadn't yet been doxed, I posted these two stories: Can’t We Just Say It? This Wuhan Panic Was a Fraud Driven by Politics and for the Aggrandizement of Power and Public Health Experts Seem to Have Targeted the Constitution as a Public Health Crisis.
We are now entering an environment where ‘public health experts’ have arrogated to themselves the authority to decide what is or what is not a ‘public health emergency.’ The precedent has been established that actions taken in such an emergency supersedes core Constitutional rights. We have a case study showing that protesting for the ‘right’ reason, as a response to a ‘public health emergency’ invented by ‘experts,’ can be permitted while other protests cannot. Given the way the left has tried to use ‘public health’ as a pressure point on the Second Amendment, it isn’t hard to see how homicides and assaults involving firearms would be ruled a ‘public health emergency’ and the powers used to ‘combat’ Wuhan virus used to greatly limit the availability of firearms. It is not only not hard to see Child Protective Services descending upon the home of gun owners who were informed on by the local Karenwaffe and sweep their children away to safety and to have this upheld by the courts just as the closing of churches has been allowed. What if ‘triggering speech’ is determined to have adverse health effects (this is already being alleged)? Then the First Amendment has been effectively abolished.
In short, we are on the cusp of governance by ‘experts’ who have no interest in anything but power and being able to control the lives of their fellow citizens. We need to identify these people and we need to act to ensure they are ridiculed and discredited (I say this because I’m reliably informed that summary executions are not permitted) and driven from all positions of power and influence. Until this happens, our rights are not secure and the republic is in jeopardy.
They've even telegraphed that they are willing to use a specious "public health emergency" to accomplish what would be impossible within the strictures of the Constitution. For instance, CDC Gears Up to Use Research on 'Gun Violence' the Same Way They Have Used Research on the China Virus:
Beyond the obvious point that you can’t be proven obviously and publicly wrong based on social science research, what the Wuhan virus has done is open a whole new line of attack on the Second Amendment. By declaring the virus to be a public health emergency, the public health nazis, acting through a network of unelected bureaucrats, have shut down schools, closed businesses, forbidden church congregations to gather, forced us to wear totemic face masks to show our obedience, and are on the cusp of imposing a “vaccine passport” on us to allow us to go about our lives. With the legal impact of the First Amendment effectively neutered with court approval, they are gearing up for a frontal assault on gun rights.
If this trend goes forward, and it will, thanks to the people who hated Trump more than they respected the Constitution or loved their country, within the next four years, we will see possession of firearms declared a public health emergency and gun ownership will be subjected to a wide array of diktats controlling your ability to own and use a firearm.

Since the beginning of the Wuhan virus and the daily infliction of pandemic porn, it has become very obvious that state and local governments are using the purported existence of a public health emergency to inflict social control measures that are patently unconstitutional. Early on, churches were targeted for closure. Outdoor worship services were forbidden, while BLM demonstrations were allowed. Public beaches were closed. Curfews established. People in hospitals were deprived of visitors even as they lay dying. In New York, New Jersey, and Michigan, the elderly and infirm residing in nursing homes might as well have been targeted for elimination by the policies those states imposed.
The governor of Washington threatened to starve into submission citizens who would not cooperate with so-called contact tracers.
This week, the mayor of Los Angeles has ordered power and water shut off to private residences who refuse to go along with his orders.

The predicate was set in 2020 for the use of "public health emergencies" declared by the executive branch to strip us of our rights as citizens. Courts everywhere have been much too deferential to these orders. As a result, we've created a backdoor to governance by fiat. This is the new normal unless state legislatures and the Congress act to severely limit what is such an emergency and how it may be declared. As Benjamin Franklin famously said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
