Yesterday, Joe Biden wowed a crowed of twos in Lancaster, PA, talking about healthcare. This marks a new phase in the Biden campaign that involves moving him out of the basement and back into public view, though behind a massive face mask reminiscent of those worn in the 18th century by people suffering from tertiary syphilis to hide their dissolving facial cartilage. The rally was mostly notable for Trump supporters outnumbering Biden supporters

After the rally, Biden gave an interview:

This is via The Daily Beast:

Joe Biden would use federal powers to require all Americans to wear masks in public to fight the coronavirus pandemic if he was president. In contrast to President Trump, who has explicitly refused to wear a mask anywhere near the press, Biden has rarely been seen in public without a mask since he restarted campaign and media appearances. In a Thursday interview with KDKA, the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, the presumptive Democratic nominee said he’d use all powers at his disposal to force Americans to wear masks if he was in office. “The one thing we do know is these masks make a gigantic difference,” he said. “I would insist that everybody out in public be wearing that mask. Anyone to reopen would have to make sure that they walked into a business that had masks.” Asked if that meant he’d use executive power to mandate mask-wearing, Biden said: “From an executive standpoint, yes I would… I would do everything possible to make it required that people had to wear masks in public.” Biden also said it was likely he’d accept the Democratic nomination in a near-empty room.

To say there is evidence that supports wearing of face masks by all persons in a public setting is a wild overstatement, so wild as to be a bald-faced lie. If you are hacking up lung biscuits, sure, wear a mask, or, better yet, stay home. But if you don’t have symptoms a mask does nothing. If you are an asymptomatic carrier, more and more data indicates that you have a viral load that is insufficient to transmit the disease. This is why Switzerland reopened its schools. In fact, the major study that drove European school closings was revealed to be a fraud.

Biden making mandatory wear of face masks his first response to another outbreak of Wuhan–my view is that we really need to just gut this out and get it over with–is little short of bizarre. It is also revealing. Of all possible actions you could take, face masks do the least good and require the most stringent social controls. If you think they work and want to wear one, fine. Just as I won’t stand in your way when you sacrifice that rooster under the full moon and dance naked while waving its entrails to ward off Wuhan virus I will fully support your right to wear a face  mask. Just don’t expect me to go along with you. A government with enough power to make me wear a mask when outside my home is a government with enough power to make me wear any symbol it wishes…like a yellow Star of David on my shirt.
