On Thursday, Justice informed Judge Emmett Sullivan that it was requesting that the guilty plea entered by Flynn be set aside and the entire case be dismissed because of the gross violation of FBI policy in the conduct of the investigation and because there was no actual crime committed. The fact that the government, on the advice of US Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, Jeffrey Jensen, who was charged with reviewing the controversial case, acted to rectify a miscarriage of justice set bowels a-churning in some quarters with accusations that the dismissal request was unwarranted and some kind of assault on the rule of law. See my colleague shipwreckedcrew‘s takedown here.

Yesterday, former President Barrack Obama jumped into the fray. Using the services of court stenographer Michael Isikoff, Obama used the theatrical artifice of a leak of a candid conversation with former members of his administration, attacking the decision by the Department of Justice to act in the interests of…well…justice as something un-American.

Former President Barack Obama, talking privately to ex-members of his administration, said Friday that the “rule of law is at risk” in the wake of what he called an unprecedented move by the Justice Department to drop charges against former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.

In the same chat, a tape of which was obtained by Yahoo News, Obama also lashed out at the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as “an absolute chaotic disaster.”

“The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn,” Obama said in a web talk with members of the Obama Alumni Association.

“And the fact that there is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic — not just institutional norms — but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk. And when you start moving in those directions, it can accelerate pretty quickly as we’ve seen in other places.”

Coming from the guy whose Attorney General was slapped with a criminal referral for lying to Congress (never acted on because ‘rule of law’ and all that bullsh**) and who was directly involved in a hare-brained scheme to provide guns to Mexican drug cartels so they could kill more people and justify increased regulations of gun sales in the US…and who might as well have been a co-conspirator in the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry…this concern about the law and fear of us becoming a Third World sh** hole is pretty rich. This is the guy whose administration harnessed the capabilities of the US intelligence and law enforcement apparatus to spy on the campaign of a candidate for president and on the transition team of the incoming administration. This is a guy who was personally involved in the process that led to the political hit on General Flynn.

There is a lot more crap waiting to hit the fan. Now that Justice and intelligence community are out of the hands of Obama loyalists and Deep Staters implacably opposed to the Trump administration, more revelations will start trickling out. These revelations will implicate both Obama and Biden in the attempt to hand the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton and to drive President Trump from office. They will definitely provide more insights on the degree to which Joe Biden has used his office, both as Senator and as Vice President, to enrich his family and put American interests at risk in the process.

Get used to the ‘rule of law’ nonsense. That is going to be some of the ground over which 2020 is fought. And there may be some enlightened self-interest going on in the process.
