President Trump's Response to Justice Sotomayor's Unhinged Rant Sets off Demands by the Left That Conservative Justices Recuse From Cases

The Supreme Court has become the latest battleground between President Trump and the entrenched interests of the status quo.

After being on the losing side of 5-4 decision on Friday, the Supreme Court’s self-described wise Latina and the representative of low-end mediocrity on the Court, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, launched into a spittle-flecked critique of her conservative colleagues (see Justice Sotomayor Accuses Her Conservative Supreme Court Colleagues of Doing Trump’s Bidding). By the way, this was a needless 5-4 decision and shows the degree to which both progressive appeals courts judges and their brethren on the Supreme Court are willing to ignore SCOTUS precedent in the service of killing babies and eliminating our national border. Had the subject been any other this would have been 9-0.

Never one to let a sleeping dog lie, President Trump took notice

Then yesterday, the story broke that the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Ginni Thomas, is allegedly leading an effort to purge the Trump administration of political appointees who are hostile to the Trump agenda.

For the past 18 months, Ginni Thomas, the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, and other conservatives have plied the White House with memos and suggestions about which people to fire — and who should replace them.

Some administration aides have long been suspicious that people like Ms. Thomas and Ms. Dunlop are less interested in pro-Trump purity than in appointments for their own networks of friends. White House officials have privately questioned Ms. Thomas’s lobbying on personnel, and have said Mr. Trump — who is facing several decisions before the Supreme Court personally and in terms of administration policy — has made clear he is conscious of whom she is married to.

Still, in the last year, as Mr. Trump has grown more mistrustful of his government, the sway held by Ms. Thomas and her group has increased. Administration officials have routinely sent aides to attend weekly Groundswell meetings held at the offices of Judicial Watch, another conservative group led by a vocal defender of the president, Tom Fitton.

This is just the sort of cheap shot that we’ve gotten use to seeing from the noxious Maggie Haberman ever since she too a break from ‘teeing up stories‘ for the Clinton campaign. She clearly tries to imply that President Trump is giving Ginni Thomas a free hand in purging anti-Trump people from the ranks of political appointees (why this is controversial is beyond me because the President should be entitled to appoint supporters to Schedule C positions) because he doesn’t want to make Clarence Thomas angry of his wive being dissed and would then vote against the administration.

There are calls for Justice Thomas to recuse himself by suitably obscure and astro-turfed groups

As well as suitably obscure and irrelevant Democrat congressmen

and other non-entities

This has set off a chain reaction of demands for recusal. This guy, who I guess I should be familiar with because he has a blue checkmark but who seems so stupid I wouldn’t want to know who he is, says basically the whole conservative majority should be forced to recuse themselves.

Bottom line here, no one is going to recuse. I think that Sotomayor’s statements were over the top and damaging to the Court’s credibility, but no sane person expects her to act as anything other than what she is. But this entire episode does serve one useful purpose. It puts the lie to Chief Justice John Robert’s nonsensical ‘there are no Obama judges’ statement, and, by doing so, it makes the conservative majority more cohesive because they can see that this sh**storm descending one their heads is the result of one of their colleagues siccing the left on them.
