One of the more interesting aspects of the looming impeachment of President Trump is how the role of Joe and Hunter Biden will figure into the story. Allegedly, Trump committed an impeachable offense by, according to various second and third hand accounts, tying Ukrainian aid to their cracking down on endemic corruption because some of that endemic corruption involved Hunter Biden, who knows jack-sh** about the natural gas business and who does not speak either Russian or Ukrainian, and his $83,000 per month salary from Burisma. Apparently, there is a secret codicil in Article II of the Constitution which makes it illegal to investigate the gits of major Democrats.

If it is up to President Trump and his allies, there is little to no doubt that the Biden’s will be witnesses at any Senate trial of the president should McConnell elect to go for the Ringling Brothers option (the Constitution, by the way, does not require an actual trial with witnesses, it simply requires that the Senate convene under the authority of the Chief Justice and that they vote on impeachment, and that is what McConnell should do). Not that “tu quoque” is an actual defense, but the public should see that pervasive grift and graft that President Trump was trying to unwind in Ukraine.

In a rally in Kentucky earlier this week, Trump made a big issue of the role the Biden’s played in Ukraine.

Rand Paul said that Joe and Hunter should be questioned under oath.

The Democrats are taking seriously the possibility of one of their potential nominees being the subject of questioning by someone other than Chris Wallace or Chuck Todd or Jake Tapper.

A top Biden ally, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), told The Daily Beast that calling the 2020 presidential contender—who served for 35 years in the Senate—and his son for testimony “would be literally rolling a grenade down the aisle of the Senate” that would have “lasting consequences” on the upper chamber’s ability to work together.

“Look, Joe Biden is well known, widely respected, and frankly beloved by many in the Senate on both sides of the aisle,” said Coons. “The impeachment process is already disruptive enough. I think we should be approaching it with seriousness, not by entertaining conspiracy theories that are utterly unfounded. And I think it would be a very unfortunate move.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), who served alongside Biden and was in office for Clinton’s impeachment, recalled that saga as being bitterly fought, but ultimately one that didn’t ruin the chamber.

“We should really accept our responsibility to be dignified, independent, and thoughtful in the way we handle it,” Durbin said. “It’s much worse than it was 20 years ago, but I still have faith in my colleagues on both sides, that they understand that we have a historic responsibility here.”

Durbin also dismissed the idea of the Bidens appearing for testimony, calling it a political stunt. “The next thing we can expect them to do is to say, Hillary Clinton has to testify,” he said.

You know, we’ve been constantly reminded that impeachment is a political, not a judicial, proceeding. This usually happens whenever you remark that the affair Adam Schiff is carrying out is much more akin to something you’d find happening in the basement of Lubyanka builiding in Moscow than what should be happening in the House of Representatives of the United States. The Bidens and John Kerry need to be called in to testify on the assistance the State Department provided to aiding Hunter Biden’s piggy bank. Hillary Clinton and her senior campaign staff need to be questioned on their role in trying to find derogatory information on Paul Manafort in Ukraine. They need to find out exactly what a political proceeding looks like when a determined majority has decided to to not take seriously the odd conspiracy theories hatched by Schiff and his catchfarts and to expose the true misconduct and corruption in US relations with Ukraine.
