If there is one thing the US needs more of it is the leaders of tiny, inconsequential, though perhaps picturesque, countries telling us how to run our affairs.
Today’s winner of this sweepstake of irrelevancy is New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. She was interviewed by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour while she was in Paris for the “Christchurch Call,” which is allegedly an international effort to drive “extremists” off social media. What could ever go wrong with that?
[Y]ou can draw a line and say that that does not mean that you need access to military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles. You do not. And New Zealanders, by and large, absolutely agreed with that position.
“Australia experienced a massacre and changed their laws. New Zealand had its experience and changed its laws. To be honest, I do not understand the United States.
I’m sure what Prime Minister Ardern believes is of a great deal of interest to her but most Americans aren’t going to be stampeded into abandoning the US Constitution in order to curry favor with some rando foreign politician.
New Zealanders, in fact, should wake up and look about. This woman used the grief after the Christchurch attack to deprive New Zealanders of the firearms. She’s using the same incident (note the studious silence of the folks over the daily murder of Christians in Asia, not to mention the massacre of “Easter worshipers” in Sri Lanka…why is that?) to now try and deprive her citizens of whatever limited free speech rights they have by giving the government the right and ability to determine what is extremist.
Thankfully, we have a president who isn’t going along with this garbage. But if Barack Obama, or Vichy Republican and Never Trump hero Hillary Clinton, were president, we’d be facing an entirely different set of facts right now.
