I’ve never been able to really understand the number of fanbois that Jake Tapper has accumulated on the right. I repeatedly hear that “Jake is one of the good ones.” And “Jake is a straight shooter.” And so on. I’ve yet to see any evidence of that at all. One only has to look at the auto da fe he conducted in the aftermath of the Parkland shootings where an audience composed of angry, and grieving, and, in some cases callously opportunistic people were allowed to blame Senator Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch for the killings while Tapper stood idly by orchestrating the Two Minute Hate to see that he’s not any less partisan now than when he served as press secretary for Democratic congressional candidate Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky. In fact, where guys like Chuck Todd and Brian Stelter are blatant partisans shilling for the Democrats, they are relatively harmless. You know who they are and what they are doing. The patina of fairness that Tapper has managed to paste over his partisanship is insidious and dangerous.
Today, that side of Tapper was in full bloom as he and acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney clashed over the Mueller report. It started out contentious:
TAPPER: …President Trump has previously said he wants the public to see the Mueller report.
But here is what he tweeted on Friday. Help us understand this — quote — “The problem is no matter what the radical left Democrats get, no matter what we give them, it will never be enough. Just watch. They will harass and complain and resist, the theme of their movement. So maybe we should just take our victory and say, no, we have got a country to run.”
When the president says no there in that tweet, is he suggesting that the full Mueller report should not be released?
MICK MULVANEY, ACTING WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF: Jake, good morning. Thanks very much for having me on this Sunday morning.
No, take the president at his word that it is — it is time to sort of work on policy. Yes, we need to figure out what went wrong with the Mueller report, why — in all fairness to your network, why the media got it so wrong for so long. But it is time to talk about health care. It is time to talk about
trade. It is time to talk about other things, while, at the same time, talking about why it came down the way that it did. It was so thorough and yet so accurate. How did the media get it so wrong?
I think the president is just venting the same frustration a lot of people had when the Mueller report came out, and it turned out exactly like he said that it would.
TAPPER: Well…
MULVANEY: So, now, as usual, you take the president at his word in his tweets.
TAPPER: He wants it released.
Then it got hilarious.
TAPPER: But I’m not sure what you’re saying the media got wrong. The media reported what — the investigation was going on. Other than the people in the media on the left, not on this network, I don’t know anybody who got anything wrong.
We didn’t say that there was conspiracy. We said that Mueller was investigating conspiracy.
MULVANEY: That’s fine. If that’s your recollection of history, that’s great.
Face it, come on, the media got this wrong, Jake. It’s OK. People get stuff wrong all the time, just not at this level. But it’s done now. The report is there. It’s extraordinarily thorough, as you know. I think they talked to 500 people, issued 2,800 subpoenas.
And it completely exonerates the president. There’s no collusion. There’s no obstruction of justice.
Since Tapper brought up the subject, let’s refresh his memory on what CNN got wrong. This is by Amber Athey of The Daily Caller:
While CNN is standing by its July 27 report claiming Michael Cohen was prepared to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting in advance, a number of factors have called their reporting into question. (RELATED: CNN’s Quadruple Down On Dubious Trump Tower Story Leaves Out Key Details)
We now know this story was bullsh**. Here are the first five of twenty documented instances of CNN leading, promoting, and standing by bullsh** stories…often after they were contradicted by multiple sources.
CNN retracted a story in June of 2017 claiming that former Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci was under investigation by Congress for his alleged ties to Russia.
CNN reported in December of 2017 that Donald Trump Jr. received special access to documents stolen by WikiLeaks on Sept. 4, 2016. However, Donald Trump Jr. actually was emailed about the documents on Sept. 14, 2016 — a day after they were already available to the general public.
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said during a congressional hearing in May that three intelligence agencies — the CIA, NSA and the FBI — concluded that Russia interfered with the 2016 election.
Nonetheless, CNN has repeatedly claimed that all 17 intelligence agencies came to the same conclusion about Russian meddling.
On June 6, 2017, CNN reported that former FBI director James Comey would contradict President Donald Trump’s claim that he was not under investigation.
When the time came for Comey to release his opening statement for his congressional testimony, he actually ended up confirming Trump’s account.
For two years, CNN has been wrong, and relentlessly so, on everything to do with the collusion hoax and the Mueller investigation. They have been so wrong, so often, and their wrongness amplified and persisted in by their opinion shows that one can only conclude that they had as a corporate objective to promote any negative story about Trump, regardless of falsity, and to tr to render him incapable of governing.
This was a good showing by Mulvaney. Getting Tapper on the record claiming CNN didn’t get anything wrong is priceless.
