Right now it looks like Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro* is on the ropes. The Venezuelan bolivar is approaching the Weimar reichsmark in uselessness. Anyone with the means who is not suckling at the socialist teat has fled the country. Bolivarian militia thugs are being used to enforce the law because the police and army are deserting in droves. The US has applies sanctions to the Maduro milch cow, the state-owned oil company, and that has caused even Maduro supporters, like the Russians, to pull the plug on business transactions that could result in Russian banks being sanctioned. Most of the civilized world now recognizes the National Assembly President, Juan Guaido, as the legitimate head of state.

On the American side, the leader in the effort to force Maduro from power has been Florida Senator Marco Rubio. He has been the driving force behind sanctions. He is directly responsible for keeping the issue before President Trump and getting Vice President Mike Pence to visit the Colombia-Venezuela border. As things heated up over the weekend with aid trucks carrying supplies into Venezuela from Colombia being torched by Bolivarian forces:

Senator Rubio sent out a tweet that has rattled a lot of cages:

Here is a sampling of reaction.

Marco Rubio Is So Pumped Up About Venezuela He Just Tweeted a Snuff Film

The context, such as it is, is that Rubio’s previous tweet was a condemnation of Venezuela leader Nicolás Maduro—sic temper tyrannis, in other words. But what happened to Qadaffi—tortured and killed after being taken prisoner—was a possible war crime, according to Human Rights Watch, and the Libya intervention was hardly a shining moment in American foreign policy. It’s a weird look for a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and particularly one who has taken an active role in shaping the Trump administration’s policy in Venezuela.

Marco Rubio posts a revolting and dangerous tweet as tensions with Venezuela rise

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is best know on Twitter for posting inoffensive, out-of-context Bible passages. But in recent days, his account has become particularly inflammatory as he has ramped up his online rhetoric against Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

And on Sunday, he took his attacks on Maduro to a new level, posting a threatening tweet showing two images of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi — both during his rule and as he was being killed in the streets by a mob. In the context of his previous tweets, it was a clear warning to Maduro.

As Venezuela descends into chaos, Marco Rubio posts bloody tweet and highlights alleged poisoning of opposition lawmaker

In another tweet, directly following one about the “#MaduroCrimeFamily,” Rubio posted uncaptioned before and after picture of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, with the before showing a photo of him in power, and the after showing him beaten to a bloody pulp. The tweet, in the context of his series of recent tweets on Venezuela and Maduro, seems to be a veiled warning for Maduro, who is considered to be a leader who is overdue for recall.

Marco Rubio Sends World Abuzz with Cryptic Gaddafi Tweet

Rubio’s tweet was widely interpreted as a message to Maduro, setting off furor on Twitter among critics who saw it as a thinly-veiled threat of U.S. military intervention in Venezuela.

And a Putin buttboy from RT:

It is funny that the idea of forcing a maniacal killer like Nicolas Maduro from power could be controversial. It is hard to believe that the same reaction would have been generated by a similar tweet by any Democrat senator when Obama was president (this is a hypothetical as there really haven’t been pro-American Democrat senators in about a decade). In fact, the same bunch howling now was ecstatic as Obama and Clinton kicked off a genocidal war in Syria. But, because such an act would hand President Trump a foreign policy triumph, we have reached a point in our political discourse where the NeverTrump nutters and the left and the Rand Paul isolationists have all decided to sh** themselves over a tweet that seems to simply be warning Maduro that unless he wants to be to be beaten and buggered by a mob before he’s shot and his corpse left to the dogs, that he’d better leave.

**I don’t know what “maduro” means in Spanish, what I do know is that you don’t want to search Flickr Creative Commons for that word with your SafeSearch “off.”
