Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shumer Lace Up Their Golf Cleats and Tap Dance On Trump's...Ah...Foot

Shortly after President Trump gave his press conference announcing his soft cave on the government shutdown, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi held their own press conference to declare victory. In fairness, I’m not sure they are wrong.

The topline for this is that the shutdown strategy has failed. Even if Trump signs and executive order

the fact remains that this was a option that was open a month ago. It makes no tactical sense to shut down the goverment, particularly Homeland Security, for a month and then do what you could have done without a shutdown.

The second point that I take from Pelosi’s self congratulation about her strength with her caucus and Schumer’s fawning over her is that the House Democrat caucus was very close to a revolt.

One thing you can take to the bank from this is that the Democrats will come away emboldened and more intransigent. Virtually everyone is going to see this as a huge climb-down for Trump and that is not a good combination for Trump.
