Just a little earlier, colleague T. LaDuke posted on the Great Disappointment that Robert Mueller’s investigation is going to prove to be to the left and anti-Trumpers, to the extent they aren’t the same.
If you want more proof, this is just crossing the wires.
A Russian woman who works for an oligarch close to Russian President Vladamir Putin has been charged with attempting to meddle in the 2018 midterm election.
The charges, filed Friday in the Eastern District of Virginia, accuse Elena A. Khusyaynova of St. Petersburg with using social media platforms to create thousands of social media and e-mail accounts — appearing to be from U.S. persons — to “create and amplify divisive social media and political content.” The case is not being brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team.
Among the topics were gun control, gay rights, the women’s march, and the NFL anthem debate. They also keyed off specific events, including the Las Vegas shooting and the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. The content adopted several viewpoints, not just one, court documents said.
Among politicians attacked were John McCain, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, and former President Barack Obama.
Court documents include photos of phony “memes” planted in this Russian effort.
If you have your program handy, you’ll see that Ms. Khusyaynova works for Yevgeny Viktorovich Prigozhin, also known as “Putin’s chef.” This is the same oligarch who allegedly employed the thirteen Russian nationals, who may or may not exist, indicted by Mueller, with much ballyhoo about how it spelled the end of the Trump administration, back in February. This indictment has the same public relations gimmickry as the previous. We have no real proof this woman exists. If she does exist she is in no danger of being apprehended and extradited. What is notable about the indictment is that it is brought by US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, not by Mueller.
This, like the Cohen charges, is a sure sign that Mueller is winding down his investigation. And the charges here, like those in February, don’t tell us anything we didn’t know (did anyone really think the Russians would not meddle in any US election?). They have nothing to do with Trump or his campaign. When all of this is over, Trump needs to get to the bottom of how this bullsh** started and how the nation was robbed of two years at a critical time by allegations that are so flimsy and frivolous that you had to be something of a moron to credit them in the first place.
