Nikki Haley Is About to Put a Lot of People on the Spot Over Iran

As demonstrators confront security forces across Iran, the EU has been fairly silent on the subject. The spokesperson for the main human rights wallah in the EU, Federica Mogherini, barely stirred to send out this tepid tweet

Those tweets are 100% of what has come out of that office and they all happened today after being shamed into action.

Where Mogherini, who is well known for her love affair with the Kremlin, has been pretty bold about criticizing President Trump she seems to have lost her nerve when facing a potential slaughter of civilians by the IRGC.

Likewise, other Iranian patrons like China and Russia have been silent.

That is about to change.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Tuesday called for the international organization to hold multiple emergency sessions as protests continued in Iran for the sixth day.

“The U.N. must speak out,” Haley said at a press conference. “In the days ahead, we will be calling for an emergency session both here in New York and at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom.”

Haley framed the response as a contrast to the international community’s response to the 2009 protests in Iran, and said the world must respond better to these protests.

“All freedom-loving people must stand with their cause,” she said. “The international community made the mistake of failing to that in 2009, we must not make that mistake again.”

This will be interesting. Who, besides the United States, will speak out in favor of political freedom? My guess is that damned few will be with us. And that, as the man says, is good information to have.
