Trump Asks Anti-Vax Nutter, RFK, Jr. To Chair A Commission On Vaccines

Robert Kennedy, Jr., son of former U.S. Attorney Gen. Robert Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, speaks against a measure requiring California schoolchildren to get vaccinated, during a rally at the Capitol in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday, April 8, 2015. The bill SB277 by Sen. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, and Sen. Ben Allen, D-Santa Monica will be heard by the California Senate Health committee Wednesday. If approved by the Legislature and signed by the governor, parents could no longer cite personal beliefs or religious reasons to send unvaccinated children to private and public schools unless a child’s health is in danger. I guess we got too used to the sudden burst of sanity by Trump in his cabinet nominations and forgot about the leftwing conspiracy theorist that is perpetually lurking just below that top skin cell.

President-elect Donald Trump met with Robert Kennedy Jr., a prominent vaccine skeptic, on Tuesday. According to incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer, the two discussed “the issues pertaining to vaccines and immunizations.”

After the meeting concluded, Kennedy told reporters that Mr. Trump had asked him to “chair a commission on vaccination safety and scientific integrity.” Kennedy said he told Mr. Trump he would chair such a commission, and that their meeting was held at Mr. Trump’s request.

I don’t even know what this commission would look like. I can’t imagine anyone with a scientific reputation to uphold getting involved. So, if this commission does happen, it will be composed of RFK, Jr.’s fellow nutters and it will do grave damage in the process. This, from Think Progress, is exactly on target:

Though the only study to ever even suggest a connection between the vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and autism has been massively and certifiably discredited, the belief that there is a link lives on as a conspiracy theory. Kennedy peddles that belief, such as in 2015 when he testified to the Vermont House Health Care Committee that pharmaceutical companies are pressuring the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) to bury evidence of an vaccine-autism connection.

“You could design an epidemiological study that shows that cigarettes don’t cause cancer or sex didn’t cause pregnancy,” he said. “You just get rid of all the pregnant people or you get rid of all the people who have cancer and then you present your study. That’s what CDC has been doing with these nine epidemiological studies that they point to.”

Kennedy maintains a “manifesto” on his website in which he argues that Big Pharma and the press “bully, pillory, and demonize vaccine safety advocates as ‘anti-vax,’ ‘anti-science,’ and far worse.” He insists that parents are still being forced to inject their children “with potentially risky vaccines.”

The whole anti-vax movement is a creature of the rabid eco-cult left. The same people that don’t believe vaccines prevent disease are terrified of GMOs and cooties in your water and fracking-caused earthquakes. Don’t we have enough of our own nutters without poaching theirs. Can we start a GoFundMe to pay for Kennedy to do something useful? Like take flying lessons?
