So this morning, Donald Trump “senior campaign adviser” Sam Clovis* was on CNN’s New Day with Alisyn Camerota. The subject of violence becoming synonymous with Donald Trump events came up:
Via Mediaite:
Camerota: What do you think about the idea that he was suggesting that there would be violence? Threatening that there would be violence?Clovis: I don’t think he said violence, he said riots…
Camerota: Riots are violence, by definition.
Clovis: I don’t accept that.
The stunning thing is that it kind of worked, Clovis ran off at the mouth long enough for Camerota to just move on and never ask Clovis to describe what a non-violent riot would look like.
We’ve documented, here on RedState, Donald Trump’s pattern of inciting violence against loud protesters, hecklers, and people silently protesting.
This is less a ding on the rather obese, demented gentleman with the preternaturally large head that it is a commentary on CNN. CNN is pretty much the bottom feeder of cable news networks in this regards. In its slavish coverage of Donald Trump it manages to make MSNBC look like a bastion of impartial journalism. So much so that Jeff Zucker, who from the picture appears to be distantly related to Sam Clovis,
made an impassioned denial that his network was not to blame:
Does CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker feel responsible for the rise of Donald Trump?
“I don’t, because he has been the front-runner of the Republican party since he announced last June,” said Zucker during an intimate lunch meeting with reporters today. Just as Hillary Clinton got the lion’s share of attention in the Democratic race early on, “the front-runner of the party is always going to get a disproportionate amount of attention,” he said.
This is, of course, bullsh**. This chart compares, on the left, the dollars spent by candidates on advertising, with, on the right, the value of the earned media coverage they’ve received:
Mr. Trump earned $400 million worth of free media last month, about what John McCain spent on his entire 2008 presidential campaign. Paul Senatori, mediaQuant’s chief analytics officer, says that Mr. Trump “has no weakness in any of the media segments” — in other words, he is strong in every type of earned media, from television to Twitter.
Over the course of the campaign, he has earned close to $2 billion worth of media attention, about twice the all-in price of the most expensive presidential campaigns in history. It is also twice the estimated $746 million that Hillary Clinton, the next best at earning media, took in. Senator Bernie Sanders has earned more media than any of the Republicans except Mr. Trump.
What you just witnessed in that clip is a direct outgrowth, a tumor if you will, of CNN’s policy of not challenging Trump because of the ratings he brings to that benighted network.
*Clovis is another example of how Trump totally and completely corrupts anything or anyone he touches. For instance:
Leaked emails show that the Iowan who is Donald Trump’s new national co-chairman was throwing bombs at him as recently as last month, expressing grave misgivings about the authenticity of Trump’s religious faith and his conservatism.
“(Trump) left me with questions about his moral center and his foundational beliefs. … His comments reveal no foundation in Christ, which is a big deal,” evangelical conservative activist Sam Clovis said in an email just 35 days before he quit his job as Republican Rick Perry’s Iowa chairman and signed on with Trump’s campaign.
In the emails, shared by Perry backers Wednesday with The Des Moines Register, Clovis castigated Trump for his past liberal positions and admission that he has never asked for God’s forgiveness for any wrongdoing.
In an interview Wednesday, Clovis verified that he’d written the sharply worded criticisms of Trump, including one email in which he praises Perry for calling Trump a “cancer on conservatism.”
