The Islamic attack on Paris on Friday night stomped on any interest anyone had in what the geriatrics running for the Democrat nomination for president in their debate on Saturday. But, realizing this furor won’t go on forever, I decided to drop this bit of fact checking into the ether for posterity’s sake.
CLINTON: “Since we last debated in Las Vegas, nearly 3,000 people have been killed by guns. Two hundred children have been killed. This is an emergency.” She said that in the same period there have been 21 mass shootings, “including one last weekend in Des Moines where three were murdered.”
This is pretty much a lie in all its particulars, from the sentences all the way down the them most insignificant gerunds.
There were thirty-two days between the two Democrat debates (October 13 – November 14). Let’s go to the numbers. As a baseline, let’s use data collected by an anti-Second Amendment source. This is unconfirmed data, by that I mean there is no verified death certificate or hospital report to accompany the numbers, and it is collected by an advocacy group with an institutional interest in making the number as large as possible:
Now, let’s make this reflect the 32 days Clinton is talking about.
We get 1159 deaths and 2358 injuries. These are deaths and injuries from all causes: suicide=murder=accident=self-defense=law-enforcement. The “mass shootings” are mostly gang shootings in large cities. The Des Moines shooting with three dead that she references? It didn’t happen. There were three homicides in Des Moines than weekend but not three at one time or place. Or even two times and places. And the two hundred children? Well they include people old enough to enlist in the Armed Forces.
In short, not only is her data false, it is as much as you would expect from a near-septuagenarian woman who needs frequent naps and gets confused easily.
So, in fact checking Hillary Clinton, we award her the coveted Four-Heady:
