If you want to make millions of dollars skimming money off the left and you are a charlatan, the way to get deep into their pockets is to claim to be a scientist. Case in point is non-scientist (and very non-serious person), Bill Nye, a rather strange-looking character who has made a career out of making science whatever he thinks it is. He’s already proven conclusively that he is more than a little unclear on how the whole heterosexual sex thing ends up with children. He beclowned himself on the issue of GMOs (and, in a hint of what is probably going on with in this story, was alleged to have been paid by Monsanto to change his views). Now, despite having been laughed at by meterologists, he’s entered the LOTTO of left wing money, climate change.
Were Nye simply out to separate leftists from their government income support payments and trust fund checks that would be one thing. But Nye doesn’t stop with hucksterism, he wants to facilitate his P-T-Barnum-ization of science with fascism.
Part of the problem, as you know, is that we’re not all dealing with the same facts. People love “truth” in the abstract, but they hate inconvenient facts. And there’s so much misinformation and propaganda out there, and there are monied interests working to muddy the waters at all times. This is a tremendous burden for those who want to solve this problem.
Yeah, you’re leading to my next point. Part of the solution to this problem or this set of problems associated with climate change is getting the deniers out of our discourse. You know, we can’t have these people – they’re absolutely toxic. And so part of the message in this book is to get the deniers out of the picture, and along that line – I’ve been saying this a lot the last few weeks as I listen to the Republican debates – maybe one of these people will go out on his or her own, thinking for him or herself, and say, “You know, I’ve been thinking about this and climate change is a very serious problem. So if I’m president, we’re going to address climate change.”
This is a textbook case of how fascists deal with problems.
Charitably, the predictions by the various climate change models are unreliable. They have never been reliable. When observed phenomenon disagree with the models, such as the increase in Antarctic ice, then we are told out observations are wrong. When data doesn’t comport with modeling, federal agencies, like NOAA change the data in a wholesale matter. What Nye wants to do is shut up anyone who points at the emperors naked derriere and remarks upon his nakedness. Climate change proponents tend to be psychologically fragile twerps who can’t handle debate. Their predictions are a lot less accurate than anything you’d get using the Magic Eight Ball.
And when you disagree their first impulse is not to make their processes transparent and win the argument through reason or logic, rather it is to name-call, silence, and, if possible prosecute. Or as Bill Nye says:
Absolutely. We know exactly why the climate is changing — it’s human activity!
This is not hyperbole. The State of New York is opening an investigation of Exxon over its public statements on climate change.
In a way Nye’s book is a good thing. It shows the weakness of the bizarre claims made on behalf of man-made global warming and it demonstrates conclusively their own fear of debate and their willingness to use the force of government to shut up dissent.
