Scott Walker channels Ted Cruz

Nearly a month ago, Senator Ted Cruz responded to Senator Mitch McConnell’s blatant and serial duplicity in dealing with his own caucus in a blistering speech on the floor of the Senate. In part, he observed that there was not one bit of difference in how McConnell has acted and how Senator Harry Reid would have operated:

“There is a profound disappointment among the American people because we keep winning elections and then we keep getting leaders who don’t do anything they promised. The American people were told ‘if only we have a Republican majority in the House, things will be different.’ Well, in 2010 the American people showed up in enormous numbers and we got a Republican majority in the House — and very little changed. Then the American people were told, ‘you know, the problem is the Senate. If only we get a Republican majority in the Senate and retire Harry Reid as majority leader, then things will be different.’ Well, in 2014 the American people rose up in enormous numbers, voted to do exactly that. We’ve had a Republican majority in both houses of Congress now for about six months. What has that majority done? First thing we did, in December, is we came back and passed a $1 trillion ‘cromnibus’ plan filled with pork and corporate welfare. That was the very first thing we did. Then this Republican majority voted to fund Obamacare, voted to fund President Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty. And then leadership rammed through the confirmation of Loretta lynch as Attorney General. Madam President, which of those decisions would be one iota different if Harry Reid were still majority leader? Not a one. Not a one. This Senate operates exactly the same — the same priorities. And let me tell you why.

“It’s not that this majority doesn’t get things done. It does get things done, but it listens to one and only one voice. That is the voice of the Washington Cartel, of the lobbyists on K Street, of the big money and big corporations.

Governor Scott Walker, at the Iowa State Fair, has now made the same observation:

During a stop Monday at the Iowa State Fair, the presidential hopeful took aim at the four senators who are competing against him for the GOP nomination, berating them for failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“You see, they told us during the last election that if we just elected a Republican Senate, the leadership out there would put a bill to repeal Obamacare on the desk of the president,” he said. “It’s August, we’re still waiting for that measure. We need to have some leadership in Washington.”

In an interview on the Glenn Beck Show, Governor Walker amplified on this:

In a phone appearance on Glenn Beck’s radio show Monday, the host asked Walker whether members of “the establishment, like Mitch McConnell” are “part of the problem” in Washington.

“Yes, I hear it all the time, and I share that sentiment,” the Wisconsin governor said. “We were told if Republicans got the majority in the United States Senate, there would be a bill on the president’s desk to repeal Obamacare. It is August. Where is that bill? Where was that vote?”

Walker also said the American people’s frustration with Republicans in Congress has fueled “non-elected candidates” surging in the polls, a likely reference to real estate mogul Donald Trump, who continues to lead in the polls.

“People are saying loud and clear, ‘Do not dismiss my concerns. Do not dismiss the fact that you told us that Republicans stood for something, and it’s not happening in Washington,’” Walker told Beck. “Now more than ever I think people are yearning they’re crying out.”

Walker is one of several candidates in this year’s field I would love to get the chance to vote for in the general election. He is absolutely right in his analysis and I will be willing to be that unless Marco Rubio toes this line that he will be an also-ran by the Florida primary. Rand Paul will never be able to detach himself from McConnell’s butt, the nation knows it and his polling proves it.

What is notable is that he is following Ted Cruz’s lead in how to deal with Trump. The attacks on his supporters are ill-conceived and will ultimately be proven dysfunctional. People are more than angry, they are fit to be tied and they are looking around for anyone who will not operate like the current GOP leadership in the Senate and the House. They aren’t looking for someone who has the answers they are just looking for someone who will try to do something.
