One of the many facets of the ongoing culture war is that the left can’t even run hit pieces that are coherent. For instance, yesterday the New York Times was lubriciously lathered in their nether regions over this stunning revelation: Ted Cruz Is Guest of Two Gay Businessmen. That’s the headline. And to prove it, they run an image of Ted Cruz posing with one of his hosts.
[mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ] has positioned himself as a strong opponent of same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was “ordained by God.”
But on Monday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator and Republican presidential hopeful struck quite a different tone.
Does anyone see anything scandalous here? I don’t. The issue with homosexual marriage, and the subset of activities of attending or providing services to homosexual weddings, has nothing to do with the people themselves. To the contrary, the dominant religious group in the nation is called to love homosexuals. Where the disconnect comes in is whether observant Christians have to service homosexual marriages because in doing so they give the impression to others that they support the activity. So, to anyone who is vaguely conversant with the issue from a Christian standpoint, Senator Cruz’s attendance at a reception hosted by homosexual men is not an issue — so long as he doesn’t end up in their hot tub wearing a Speedo (NTTAWWT) — isn’t a deal, big or otherwise. To the NYT, who associates religious orthodoxy with unbridled hatred, this reception is the height of hypocrisy.
Now, “Right Wing Watch” a project of the George Soros-funded “People for the American Way,” is running a similar hit on Mike Huckabee. Full disclosure, I think Huckabee is a socially conservative Democrat. He’s what Deep South Democrats are like before George McGovern’s candidacy led to that final break between the national Democrat Party and the yellow-dog Democrats who had run the South since Reconstruction. The Soros-inspired hit is dutifully run in the POLITICO as Mike Huckabee: U.S. moving toward ‘criminalization of Christianity’
The United States is moving toward “criminalization of Christianity” as a result of legalizing same-sex marriage, Mike Huckabee told a group of conservative pastors in a conference call organized by the Family Research Council.
“I think it’s fair to say that Christian convictions are under attack as never before,” Huckabee said Thursday, according to audio of the call obtained by Right Wing Watch, a project of the progressive advocacy group People for the American Way. “Not just in our lifetime, but ever before in the history of this great nation. We are moving rapidly toward the criminalization of Christianity.”
…
The likely presidential candidate told the pastors that opponents of gay marriage are “pariahs” among the “ruling class” and donors. He also noted that “supposedly conservative donors and conservative office holders are running away from the issue.”
…
“If the courts rule that people have a civil right not only to be a homosexual but a civil right to have a homosexual marriage, then a homosexual couple coming to a pastor who believes in biblical marriage who says ‘I can’t perform that wedding’ will now be breaking the law,” he said. “Let me make clear: It’s not just saying, ‘I’m sorry you have a preference.’ No, you will be breaking the law subject to civil, for sure, and possibly criminal penalties for violating the law, depending on how the law is written in communities, states and in the nation.”
Huckabee told the pastors that if they do follow their convictions according to the Bible, “your behavior will be criminal.”
The tone in the article is clear. You are supposed to read this and chuckle at this dunderheaded god-bag hick Southerner spin his conspiracy theories. The problem is that if you follow the issue at all you know that Huckabee is exactly right.
Not only have Christian business owners been punished or driven from business by the Gaystapo for refusing to provide services to homosexual weddings. Never mind that the services they provided (florist, baker, photographer) were so basic that literally hundreds of alternatives were available to aggrieved little Nazis who were pretending to get married. Never mind that no person of even the most minimal intelligence would want someone who objected to homosexual marriage involved in their “special day.”
The Obama EEO is suing a CATHOLIC school in Georgia because they fired a homosexual teacher who announced that he was “marrying” his “partner.” The head of Mozilla was hounded from his job because he supported traditional marriage.
Huckabee’s position isn’t the province of wild-eyed fundamentalists. Former Chicago Archbishop Francis George said, “I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.” Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput has warned us that the goal of tolerance is the eradication of the Church because the Church bears witness to evil and is, therefore, intolerant.
In other words, Huckabee wasn’t going all Apocalypse in this conversation. His statements are being borne out even today as the Obama administration and the homosexual mafia are intent on making religion a curious activity that a few rubes participate in for a few hours once a week. But to the SmartSet at POLITICO, Huckabee is an object of fun and his statements are nonsense. National Geographic is probably planning a documentary even as we speak.
