Tuesday evenings have become Appointment TV (or...Appointment RS), as we huddle together around the computer screen(s) to see election returns roll in. Six states are holding their primaries:
California, Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota.
There's been a great deal of focus on California — particularly the mayoral and gubernatorial races — as hope springs eternal that the once Golden State might actually be able to get out of its own way and turn things around. While the results of those races likely won't be known for weeks, given the way California does things, early returns will still be of keen interest.

Our own Jennifer Van Laar joined Townhall Editor and Salem Radio Network/WMAL host Larry O'Connor on Monday to preview the two most talked-about races in California ahead of election day. Check out what Jen has to say:

We're also keeping a close eye on congressional races in all of the states lined up today.
In Iowa, Joni Ernst's impending retirement is fueling interest in the U.S. Senate primaries there. While Rep. Ashley Hinson (IA-02) is the prohibitive GOP favorite, state Rep. Josh Turek and state Sen. Zach Walls are duking it out on the Democrat side to see who will face off with Hinson in November.
New Jersey's 7th Congressional District has eyes on it in light of Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr.'s noted absence of late — who will the Democrats nominate to challenge him in the fall? The Garden State's 12th Congressional District is also drawing some looks with scrutiny of Democrat frontrunner Adam Hamawy's connections to Al-Qaeda and The Blind Sheikh.
Polls close as follows:
- California — 11:00 PM Eastern
- Iowa — 9:00 PM Eastern
- Montana — 10:00 PM Eastern
- New Jersey — 8:00 PM Eastern
- New Mexico — 9:00 PM Eastern
- South Dakota — 8:00 PM Eastern (eastern half of state)/9:00 PM Eastern (western half of state)
We'll be watching them here at RedState, and you can, too. We'll bring you the live results right here, thanks to our partnership with Decision Desk HQ, so be sure to check in — and participate in the comments below.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
