There's petty...and then there's party. The Democrats, as much as they may be in disarray of late, are nothing if not pros at lock-step voting, and they've shown that once again, blocking the confirmation vote of President Donald Trump's nominee as Ambassador to the Vatican.
Trump announced he would nominate CatholicVote president Brian Burch for the role in late December. In early May, Burch cleared the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on a party-line vote, setting up a vote by the full Senate.
In the meantime, Pope Leo XIV was named as the successor to Pope Francis, and his installation is set for this weekend. So, Senate Republicans asked the Democrats to agree to a unanimous consent vote so that Burch could be affirmed ahead of the installation.
Nope.

Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) shared the news of this ridiculous move by the Democrats from the tram leaving the Capitol.
If you want to know how broken Senate Democrats are they just blocked the confirmation of the Ambassador to the Vatican. Insane. pic.twitter.com/MHK9K67MoJ

"Okay, well, just came from the Senate floor where we asked for unanimous consent to get the Ambassador to the Vatican approved in time to get to the installation of the Pope this weekend. The Democrats objected to that. They're objecting to everything. They're totally broken. They don't stand for anything except obstructionism and trying to get headlines over one ridiculous thing after another. So...that's the state of play in the United States [Senate]."
Clearly, Senator Schmitt is fed up with the Democrats' antics. But he later shared a clip of his floor speech, and he was both fed up and fired up here, and I can't say that I blame him.
A symptom of TDS now includes Democrats blocking the U.S. Ambassador to The Vatican in time for the Pope’s installation this weekend.

Sadly, I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom yet. pic.twitter.com/q7PalHk6uI
"Maybe, just maybe, defending people who are deported, who are MS-13 gang members who are terrorizing our communities, that's not the hill to die on. But next week, it'll be something else. But the truth is this is really about Trump Derangement Syndrome. The truth is this is about the Democrats not coming to grips about...you know, getting smoked in November because they don't have a message. So what are they grasping at? All these ridiculous things so somebody can say they're the Chief Resistor.
"I just never thought I'd see a day that the 'Resistance' would mean holding up the Ambassador to the Holy See to be there for the installation of the Pope. But here's where we are: total brokenness from the other side."
I'll confess — I thought a different word was coming after "total," but unlike his Democrat colleagues, Schmitt hasn't decided to embrace the power of "dark woke." So, good for him.
It looks like the Dems are content to continue stomping their feet and showing the world who they really are.
Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
