There are over 40 meetings and hearings scheduled before congressional committees on Wednesday, but one, in particular, should prove to be both enlightening and troubling. The Senate Judiciary Criminal Justice and Counterterrorism Subcommittee is hosting a hearing Wednesday afternoon titled "A Time for Truth: Oversight of Meta’s Foreign Relations and Representations to the United States Congress."
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) chairs the subcommittee and alluded to what we can expect from the testimony in a tweet last week:

Big News — Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams will testify NEXT WEEK in public, under oath, before my judiciary subcommittee re: her explosive evidence of Facebook’s cooperation with the Communist regime in China, including FB’s plans to build censorship tools, punish dissidents, and make American user data available to the CCP
Sarah Wynn-Williams is the former Director of Global Public Policy for Facebook and has come forward to blow the whistle on the social media giant and its ties to Communist China.
RedState has obtained a copy of the opening statement Wynn-Williams plans to deliver at the hearing, and it reveals that despite its assertions to the contrary, Facebook's parent company, Meta, has alarmingly close ties to China, raising concerns on multiple fronts.
Below are some key points Wynn-Williams aims to make in her testimony:
I served as Director of Global PublicPolicy at Facebook, now Meta, for nearly seven years starting in 2011. Throughout those seven years, I saw Meta executives repeatedly undermine US national security and betray American values. They did these things in secret to win favor with Beijing and build an $18 billion dollar business in China.
...
Meta’s dishonesty started with a betrayal of core American values. Mark Zuckerberg pledged himself a free speech champion. Yet I witnessed Metawork “hand in glove” with the Chinese Communist Party to construct and test custom-built censorship tools that silenced and censored critics of the Chinese Communist Party. When Beijing demanded that Facebook delete the account of a prominent Chinese dissident living on American soil, they did it. And then lied to Congress when asked about the incident in a Senate hearing.
...
Facebook’s secret mission to get into China was called “Project Aldrin” and was restricted to need-to-know staff. There was no bridge too far. Meta built a physical pipeline connecting the United States and China. Meta executives ignored warnings that this would provide backdoor access to the Chinese Communist Party, allowing them to intercept the personal data and private messages of American citizens. The only reason China does not currently have access to US user data through this pipeline is because Congress stepped in.
We saw hints that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg might be recalibrating even ahead of November's election. And certainly after it, he's attempted to curry favor with President Donald Trump and his administration.

Since the election, we've seen the company pledge to dump all of its "fact-checkers" and replace efforts to combat "misinformation" with a system similar to Community Notes on X.
But many on the right have remained skeptical of Zuckerberg and his seemingly newfound affinity for free speech and devotion to core American values — and, if Wynn-Williams' proposed testimony is any indication, that skepticism is well-founded. At a time when tensions between the U.S. and China are significant, Meta's seeming coziness with Beijing raises all manner of red flags.
