RedState Sports Report: Why Is the NFL Trying to Run Its Star Attraction Into the Ground?

Seriously, given that the NFL has become not Last Man Standing territory but rather Is Any Man Left Standing territory due to the number of injuries, aside from the naked greed and money grab (“Hey, look — we’re on NETFLIX today!”), what genuine purpose does this serve?

You finally have Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy with the force and the will. Now, they need to harness that same common sense and make it happen, despite the people who will try to stand in their way.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

This time between Christmas and New Year's is unquestionably good for the soul — as is having our beloved Congress critters give it a rest. And yet, that leaves this section of the Morning Minute feeling a bit empty and bereft. They do keep us on our toes when they're actually in session and doing their Congress-y things, don't they?

Here's something I hadn't realized was a thing, but guess what? The "glass ceiling" on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has finally been broken: Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) is the incoming ranking member on the committee — "the first woman to hold her party’s top position on the panel." Here's my question: It's 2025 — why have the Democrats, with all of their emphasis on diversity and equity and inclusion and such, only just now gotten around to this achievement?

White House What's Up

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill are wheels up Thursday morning, heading to St. Croix for some R&R. With 25 days left in his presidency, it appears that Joe wants to be sure to squeeze that last bit of vacation time out before his retirement. (In fairness, the jaunt to St. Croix has become an annual thing for the Bidens. What's notable this time around is that virtually no mainstream news outlets are even reporting on it — at least not per my latest Google search.)

Full Court Press...

Not a lot of court news to report on this day after Christmas either. Jennifer Oliver O'Connell did give us an update on a disappointing ruling out of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals this week:

MORNING MUSING

I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Christmas. Mine was hectic as I overestimated my ability to get everything done I needed to and underestimated how much there was to do. Still, I managed to enjoy time with my loved ones — as well as a delicious Christmas dinner. And now it's the day after and rather gray and gloomy, and the kiddo and her pup have headed back home and it's rather quiet and perhaps a bit somber here. On the bright side, I may get out this afternoon with my sister to take her dog and mine to the dog park, and the handsome beau and I have dinner plans. Now, if I can just work up the motivation to tackle the pile of dishes left in the kitchen from all of the Christmas prep...(yes, that's actually my messy kitchen).
