TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Now that at least one executive’s thoughts are known, about the only command the Commanders can give to themselves as an organization is exerting maximum damage control.
Honolulu: Man Stops and Kills Mass Shooter, and Is Promptly Arrested...for Murder
I’ve always thought that Hawaii was overrated. I have a choice where to spend my vacation dollars. Hawaii won’t be seeing any.
Harris Finally Surrenders on the Debate Rules, and Her Crying Is Hilarious
It was Harris who was desperately looking for some reason to not have to debate. Trump didn't take the bait, and now she's stuck.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
As the last days of their summer recess wind down, Congress is gearing up for a showdown over spending (#evergreen), with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) committed to including the SAVE Act (requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote) with the six-month continuing resolution (CR). Brace yourself for the inevitable drama on that amidst the heightened stakes of the looming election.
Meanwhile, the House Education and the Workforce Committee has subpoenaed Minnesota Governor (and Kamala Harris running mate) Tim Walz to produce documents and information regarding the Feeding Our Future COVID-19 fraud scandal. And since defying congressional subpoenas has become all the rage, the CEO of Steward Health Care has advised the Senate Health Committee he will not be appearing to testify before them next week as part of their investigation into the company's bankruptcy.
White House What's Up
President Joe Biden travels to Westby, Wisconsin, Thursday to deliver "remarks highlighting how his Investing in America agenda is benefiting communities across Wisconsin and ensuring Americans have a brighter, more prosperous future."
The Homestretch
Vice President Kamala Harris travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Thursday for more campaigning and debate prep. Running mate Tim Walz will appear at campaign events in Erie. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be speaking at a campaign event in Los Angeles Thursday evening.
Former President Donald Trump will deliver a speech at the Economic Club of New York and make a remote appearance before the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas. Running mate JD Vance will attend an event at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix.
Full Court Press...
It's a busy day in the courts: Trump's legal team will enter a not guilty plea to the superseding indictment and face off with Jack Smith's in D.C. for a status conference in the 2020 Election case.
And while Trump's sentencing by Judge Juan Merchan in the Manhattan case currently remains set for September 18, his team is appealing the U.S. District Court's denial of his renewed motion to remove the case to federal court and asking for the proceedings to be stayed while that's sorted out.
Over on the West Coast, things are set to get underway in Hunter Biden's California tax trial Thursday as the parties begin jury selection.
MORNING MUSING
We're officially two months out from the election, and it's impossible not to get the distinct impression we're about to see everything and the kitchen sink hurled at the American voting populace. Yes, yes, I'm Team Red, so I see things through crimson-colored glasses, but watching Team Blue (I'm tempted to start referring to them as the Smurfs) kick Operation Thwart the Bad Orange Man and Those Icky Republicans into high gear is simultaneously fascinating and gross. I feel the need to watch the next two months through laced fingers. (Which may make it tricky to write and edit.)
LIGHTER FARE
