Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" (brought to you mid-morning today compliments of its author having been semi-off-the-grid traveling the past few days) — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Are students like Petocz just useful idiots, or are they complicit in the attacks perpetrated by Hamas? It's time to rid our college campuses of all of these terrorist fronts, and the students who support them.
South Carolina Coach Staley Makes Classy Remarks About Iowa, Caitlin Clark After National Title Win
While it's disappointing that the SC coach holds the views she does about men in women's sports, it's important to talk about it when someone does the right thing.
When Truth Trumps Lies: MSNBC Host Says Trump 'Promised American Carnage' – He Promised the Opposite
As the Democrat Party and its quasi-official state media continue to melt into puddles of histrionic goo because of the stark reality that Donald J. Trump might very well again be elected president of the United States in November, articles about their hysterics get more and more fun to write.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
Congress is just now returning from Easter Recess, and things are sure to start gearing back up. For Monday, though, just one field hearing is scheduled: The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, Climate and Grid Security convene at 3:30 pm Central (in Port Arthur, Texas) to discuss “Biden’s LNG Export Ban: How Rush-to-Green Politics Hurts Local Communities and U.S. Energy Security.”
White House What's Up
Monday is a traveling day for President Joe Biden — he's set to head to Madison, Wisconsin, to deliver remarks on "lowering costs for Americans," followed by a campaign event in Chicago, Illinois.
MORNING MUSING
So, it's Eclipse Day, and apparently, some folks are freaking out about it. I say "apparently" because, as alluded to in the opening paragraph, I've been somewhat dialed out the past few days, so may be missing something. My travels on Sunday took me through portions of Kentucky and Illinois that are in the Path of Totality, and I did see a couple of highway message board signs cautioning drivers against parking on the shoulder to view the eclipse. That thought hadn't occurred to me, but I expect there will be drivers tempted to do just that at the appointed time. Here in my neck of the woods, we were in the Path of Totality in 2017, whereas for 2024's version, we're a bit to the west of it, so I don't know that it will be as remarkable as 2017. Also, I've forgotten what I did with my special eclipse shades. I'll have to content myself with looking for the funky shadows on the ground/surfaces. In any event, I'm not buying into the panic. All those who are: Feel free to point at me and laugh if it really is the end of the world as we know it. In the meantime, I've got other fish to fry.
