Police in Detroit, Michigan, have taken a "person of interest" into custody in relation to the murder of Detroit Synagogue leader Samantha Woll. 

Woll, 40, was the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue. She was found stabbed to death outside her home on October 21, though police believe the attack originated inside Woll's home. 

Woll attended a wedding the night before and returned home from the wedding at about 12:30 a.m. Police found no signs of forced entry into Woll's residence. Investigators believe Woll was stabbed inside her home and then made her way out to her yard, where she was found. 

Though no motive was announced at the time of the murder, the Detroit Police Chief quickly came out and asserted there was no evidence the murder was a hate crime, spurred by antisemitism, a question raised almost immediately given the October 7 Hamas attack in Israel and the wave of antisemitism that soon followed. 

In a press conference on Monday, Detroit Police Chief James White said investigators believe the crime occurred in Woll's residence. White said Woll attended a wedding Friday and returned home from the wedding at about 12:30 a.m. Police found no signs of forced entry into Woll's residence. 

White says that evidence suggests the crime was not motivated by antisemitism.  

A person of interest was taken into custody regarding the murder in early November but released a few days later.

On Sunday, a second person of interest was taken into custody, though few details about this new suspect have been disclosed as of this writing. 

“[The Detroit Police Department] can confirm that a person of interest has been taken into custody in furtherance of the investigation into the murder of Samantha Woll,” the department said in a statement to The Post.

“In an effort to ensure the integrity of this ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time. Additional information will be released in the near future.”

This second individual is described as a male and not someone known to Woll. 

The man is not an acquaintance of Woll's and appears to be a random stranger, the sources said. The suspect is not the same man who was released exactly one month ago after Detroit police held him for 72 hours as part of the Woll investigation.
