Omarosa Manigault Newman, President Trump’s controversial Senior Aide, has reportedly resigned from her role in the White House and will be leaving in late January.

The White House, in response to questions from The Associated Press Wednesday morning, released a quote from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders:

“Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities. Her departure will not be effective until January 20, 2018. We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service.”

Some reporters disagree that the contentious aide’s exit was a resignation, indicating she may have actually been fired by the Administration:

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was said in September to have placed Manigault Newman on a “no fly” list, an informal group of aides banned from dropping in on meetings uninvited.

Manigault Newman, a longtime associate of Donald Trump from his pre-politics days as the head of the reality TV program “The Apprentice,” was director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison, and was tasked as an adviser on African-American issues in the White House.

She was known as an outspoken defender of the President. According to The Hill, she “attacked” the Congressional Black Caucus for refusing to meet with Trump; and, of late, she was criticized for appearing to be lax in her job duties and for being generally disliked in the White House. She had also been censured in recent months for using the White House as a backdrop for her extravagant wedding photos.

Manigault Newman is one of several White House aides expected to step down at the start of 2018.
