In the aftermath of the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk last September, some despicable things were said on social media by the "compassionate left" that were vile and celebratory in nature. In some particularly disturbing cases, some leftists suggested other popular conservative commentators - and perhaps Kirk's family members - should be next.
There were scattered reports of people being fired over their callous and incendiary remarks, which in turn prompted lawsuits from some of those who found themselves no longer employed. Among them was Washington Post columnist/opinions editor Karen Attiah, who got dumped by the paper after Bluesky posts she wrote regarding Kirk, including this one:

A private arbitrator has ordered The Washington Post to rehire the opinion columnist Karen Attiah, who was fired in September over her social media posts about the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Fast forward nearly a year later, and we've learned that Attiah was ordered reinstated to the Washington Post, after an arbitrator in her case against the paper said they "did not have sufficient cause" to let her go. Further, the WaPo was told, "to award Attiah full back pay and lost benefits."
Naturally, Attiah is taking some victory laps on X, but she made this proclamation along the way - that she was fired "for speaking the truth after Charlie Kirk's killing."
Except, as I noted above, she attributed a false quote to Kirk, which she was called out for at the time - and today:

Equally bizarre was how, in another tweet, she attacked a conservative writer who criticized the New York Times for, predictably, not including one of the quotes in question in their reporting. She claimed that she wasn't actually fired for quotes - and yet the termination letter she received from the WaPo (and which she shared to "prove" her critics wrong) repeatedly referenced the fact she'd written social media posts about Charlie Kirk that were at odds with their social media policy:
"Nothing to do with quotes." Weird, because the letter specifically mentions (more than once) how your quotes about Charlie Kirk violated the WaPo's social media policy, in addition to "documented performance concerns." Relatedly, it shouldn't be lost on anyone outside of Attiah and her groupies that what she did in the aftermath of Kirk being killed by a deranged assassin is post false quotes and statements that many conservatives feel not only put a target on his back to begin with, but feel were used to justify his murder in the aftermath.
Attiah can crow all she wants to about her "victory," but in the court of public opinion among sane members of society, she's still a woketivist ghoul who showed us who she really was with how she purposely chose to respond to the public, politically motivated assassination of a father of two young children who was also a devoted husband.
