As RedState reported, the northeastern part of the United States was hammered with blizzard conditions and heavy snowfall over the last two days, with the totals in New York City alone ranging from 19 inches of snow to 2 feet. And according to WABC, "Parts of Long Island and New Jersey approached 30 inches of snow."
RedState also documented ahead of the snowstorm on how the Big Apple's mayor, Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani, urged residents to volunteer to be "emergency snow shovelers." This presumably was to try and avoid the embarrassment and backlash that followed after the last winter storm to hit the city, which left 19 homeless people dead and piles of dirty, dog-poop-topped snow and rat-infested trash bags on city streets for weeks.
Interestingly, it was revealed not long after Mamdani's press conference that to be a volunteer snow shoveler, you needed... multiple forms of ID. Ironic, considering the DSA's stance on any form of voter ID.

Not surprisingly, amid the harsh winter weather, which saw the NYPD hit the streets to make sure residents were staying safe amid reports of a large snowball fight that had gotten out of control, there were anti-police agitators on the scene - some of them masked, of course - who despicably took it upon themselves to throw snowballs at the officers, hitting and injuring some of them.
"Multiple officers were taken to the hospital with lacerations to their face," WABC noted.
In the second clip below, it looks like the agitators managed to chase police from the scene (language warning):

NYPD officers show up in Washington Square and were rewarded with a barrage of snowballs after clear “don’t throw” warnings.

Dozens keep launching anyway. Rocks and frozen bricks on deck next.
This is @NYCMayor’s “progressive” paradise with cops as piñatas while the city… pic.twitter.com/AU1VbAGUxP
Some of the NYPD getting attacked with snowballs in Washington Square Park are having fun however.

As for who was to blame for this unacceptable behavior, ex-NYC Mayor Eric Adams (D) hit the nail on the head:
Watching officers get pelted with snow while they are out in brutal weather protecting this city should make every New Yorker furious. It is disgusting behavior.
And the politicians who constantly bash the police and refuse to have their backs are setting a terrible example. Leadership matters. Tone matters.
ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS must speak out and make it clear that attacks on our officers, in any form, will not stand.
Back the police. Full stop.
Former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) also weighed in with a similar message and called out Mamdani by name:
This is disgraceful.
But with a mayor who has a history of calling the police “racist, evil, wicked and corrupt,” he set the tone.
Words have consequences. We are seeing that in the growing disrespect for law enforcement — just as we’ve seen it in the rise in antisemitism.
Real leaders understand that. This mayor does not.
@NYCMayor must denounce this at once
As of this writing, Mamdani hasn't said anything about it. But I'm sure he'll get around to it once he's done being fitted for his next custom Carhartt winter coat.
Investigations are said to be underway to find, arrest, and prosecute those who participated in the attacks.
