Hot Takes: Chris Van Hollen Tries Slapping Back After Marco Rubio Finished Him, It Does Not Go Well

For some strange reason, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) has been trying to become a thing ever since alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia was deported to his home country of El Salvador in March.  So far, it's not really working out for him.

As we've reported, Van Hollen has gone so far as to embarrass himself and his country by traveling to El Salvador to demand the illegal immigrant's release, where he was caught in photos sipping margaritas during a meeting with Abrego Garcia, an accused domestic abuser and suspected human smuggler.

In the end, Van Hollen came up empty handed after his trip, a disappointing (for him) situation compounded by the fact that Maryland resident Patty Morin, the mother of murdered mother of five Rachel Morin, did interviews at the time where she confirmed Van Hollen never reached out to the Morin family after the loss of Rachel at the hands of another El Salvadoran illegal immigrant, who brutally sexually assaulted and murdered her in the summer of 2023 while on a Maryland walking trail.

On Tuesday, Van Hollen learned the hard way that if you come after Secretary of State Marco Rubio, you are going to get Based Marco Rubio, which is exactly what happened, as RedState's Nick Arama detailed earlier:

Rubio declared he didn't regret cutting $10 million for male circumcisions in Mozambique: "I don't know how that makes us stronger or more prosperous as a nation." Then there was "$227,000 for Big Cats YouTube Channel." Oh, and "$14 million for social cohesion in Mali, whatever the hell that means."

Rubio went on to say yes, they deported people to El Salvador, including gang members, "including the one you had a margarita with."

That flipped Van Hollen out, but Rubio wasn't done yet. He went to the heart of how they were trying to stop the Trump agenda through the judiciary. There's a "division" in the government, and the judiciary can't dictate the foreign policy of the United States, he said. That isn't how our system works.

Though Van Hollen was shut down by Rubio during the hearing, he tried to slap back later on Twitter/X using video from the Tuesday hearing, criticisms which I think were what prompted Rubio to go off in the first place.

Instead of helping his case, Van Hollen made it worse for himself as people threw his arguments back in his face:
