Amid the ramping up of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) round-ups around the country courtesy of the priorities of President Donald Trump, elected Democrat officials in places that have declared themselves "sanctuaries" for illegal immigrants haven't been shy about openly announcing their defiance.
For instance, as RedState's Becky Noble reported, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu are just a few of the more prominent Democrats who have formed a woketivist alliance of sorts against ICE's removal of some of the more dangerous criminal elements from their communities.
"Our police officers will not be cooperating with federal law enforcement around federal immigration law," Frey proclaimed last Wednesday. "We enforce state and local laws here in Minneapolis, and we will do so to the best of our ability. But as for cooperation with ICE, the answer is no."

Democrat governors have also gotten in on the action, including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy - who both declared war on Trump and his agenda not long after his Election Day victory, vowing they would not play along.
Murphy, as it turns out, has admittedly taken his #Resistance efforts to a whole new level, strongly implying without outright admitting during a recent sit-down interview that he and his wife, NJ First Lady and failed 2024 Senate candidate Tammy Murphy, may be harboring an illegal immigrant above their garage. Immediately after the statement, he pretty much dared ICE to come after them:
"Tammy and I were talking about – I don’t want to get into too much detail, but there is someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to. And we said, you know what? Let's have her live at our house above our garage. And good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her."

Murphy says that he is harboring an illegal alien at his home & then threatens the feds:

This is just... stupid on steroids, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone, some of which I'll go over anyway.
First, the ICE agents mean business when they show up, they do not mess around, and they will walk away with their targets in custody. They've been waiting to be able to unleash for four years and the fact that Murphy is the governor is not going to stop them if they find out this person is in fact an illegal immigrant - especially if they learn the person has a criminal record beyond crossing illegally.
With that in mind, why would you essentially do a "Come at me, bro" with ICE, especially if your alleged goal was to protect someone from their reach? Doesn't making an admission like this put them in more of a position to be found/caught?
All of which leads me to another thought bubble: Does he really have someone staying above his garage or is he just virtue-signaling as a show of solidarity with the more far-left wing of his party? That would be just like a Democrat, to talk tough but then in the end have it turn out that they told a fictional story and are full of it.
Who knows? From a political standpoint, Murphy seemingly has nothing to lose one way or the other as this is his final year in office thanks to term limits. But his remarks should be brought up to other candidates for the office (and it's already a crowded field) to find out what their thoughts are:
1) Harboring illegal aliens is a felony.

2) Every NJ gubernatorial candidate ought to be asked whether he believes this conduct to be appropriate. https://t.co/rBrj2md01F
If he's not careful, Murphy may find himself joining disgraced former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in federal prison. Wouldn't that be something?
