The Big 'Tell' in the Media's Coverage of Joe Biden's Pardoning of Hunter Biden

As Joe Biden's "full and unconditional" pardoning of his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden, continues to reverberate in political circles, watching the mainstream media's coverage of the president's 11th-hour decision to invoke Democrat Privilege with the stroke of a pen has been a case study in media bias of the (arguably) worst kind.

We reported earlier, for instance, on how the corporate media and leftist commentators previously talked and wrote over the summer about the possibility of President Biden pardoning Hunter, gushing with all kinds of praise for the purported leader of the free world over his supposed commitment to the rule of law, even as it related to his son, in announcing at the time that he would not pardon him.

“A major commitment from the president, accepting the outcome of the trial, and also pledging not to pardon his son,” proclaimed CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, while law professor and former Assistant U.S Attorney Andrew Weissmann declared on MSNBC that, "He is not doing it because he is living what it means to have a rule of law in this country.”

Fast forward to this week, and while the coverage is different it is in many ways the same in terms of the fire hoops the media are jumping through to gloss over Joe Biden's grotesque flip-flop on the issue.

Are they reporting on the story? Yes, but it's how they are that matters, as explained by Newsbusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck, who pointed out how news outlets are leaning heavily on the sympathy card for the Biden family (Joe Biden was "protecting his only living son," one journo lovingly declared) while also not using words like "lie" in their coverage.

Instead, they're falling back on milquetoast words like "reversal" and "turnaround" to describe Joe Biden's actions:

Not that we didn't know where they were on this already, but these are all big "tells" as to where the media by and large stands on the issue (with Joe Biden, of course). I mean, let's face it: We all know how they'd be reacting had it been Donald Trump in the same situation who made the same unequivocal pledge only to take it back after his opponent was declared the winner in the presidential election.

In any event, as my colleague Teri Christoph observed, Biden's move to pardon his son has given Trump "the mother of all mandates" beyond the one he got on Election Day with his trouncing of Vice President Kamala Harris and the GOP retaking the Senate:

Joe Biden's pardoning of his son, Hunter Biden, further diminishes an already-neutered Democrat Party and empowers Donald Trump to an extent we probably haven't seen in modern times. No more can Democrats cry, "No one is above the law!" because their "big guy" just blew that idea to smithereens.

The next four years are gonna be something else. I'm buckled in, but can't wait all the same.
