Over a year ago, then-candidate for president Joe Biden piled on the bandwagon of opportunistic Democratic critics who labeled President Trump’s various coronavirus policies and travel restrictions, including the China one, “xenophobic.”
“We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus,” Biden tweeted on Feb. 1, 2020. “We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.”
In mid-March 2020, as the virus began wreaking havoc in states across the country and just after Trump’s speech announcing more travel restrictions and a more coordinated response to combat the virus, Biden proclaimed that banning travel “will not stop” it.
“A wall will not stop the coronavirus. Banning all travel from Europe — or any other part of the world — will not stop it,” he declared. “This disease could impact every nation and any person on the planet — and we need a plan to combat it.”
Fast-forward to today, and the same guy who used Trump’s travel bans to paint him as an inept, xenophobic leader during a public health crisis is now implementing … a travel ban, with this one restricting travel from India to the U.S., due to their spike in COVID cases:
“On the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday.
“The policy will be implemented in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in the India,” she added.
“The policy will take effect on Tuesday, May 4.”
The move comes on top of international travel restrictions already in place requiring people to have a negative test result before coming to the United States. The move is not expected to apply to U.S. citizens.
Biden’s shift on travel bans really is quite dramatic, when one thinks back to how ruthlessly he, his fellow Democrats, and their media accomplices treated Trump for trying to do the right thing a year ago:
wow racist and xenophobic. we’re better than this. we can’t look away. pic.twitter.com/M7swrdQHgg

this is the part where we get to dunk on the biden admin for allowing U.S. citizens to return from india. can run a bunch of headlines such as, “Biden and the virus-era India ban that isn’t” and “Biden’s coronavirus ban on travelers from India was full of holes.”

This also brings to mind the fact that much of the success Biden has seen with vaccinations under his presidency is a very direct result of Trump’s Operation Warp Speed program.
I eagerly await the mainstream media going after the Biden administration just as militantly and vigorously as they did the Trump administration over the various travel bans. The likelihood of that happening, however, is slim to none — especially considering the travel bans Biden put into effect just days after his inauguration. The media’s reactions then, too, were muted.
Oh well, a girl can at least fantasize about a “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ON TRAVEL BANS” headline from the New York Times that will never happen, right?
