As we’ve previously reported, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany can get “journalists” and Democrats to make complete fools out of themselves on any given day.
But what’s especially remarkable about some of the instances where they end up looking like buffoons is in how she doesn’t have to say a single word to them directly in order for the foolishness to shine through.
Such was the case earlier today, after Vox.com’s Aaron Rupar tweeted out a video clip of McEnany answering a question during the daily White House press briefing. Before we get to his tweet and the false characterization of her comments that he included with it, I’m going to provide the verbatim transcript of the exchange just so readers will get a good idea of how badly Rupar lied about what she said:
Reporter: If I may, on coronavirus quickly, Kayleigh. Hospitalizations in the country are up 50% since mid June. How can the president say that the country is in good shape right now?
Kayleigh McEnany: So I would note with hospitalizations in a lot of these hospitals, I spoke with Dr. Birx this morning, about 10 to 40% in the hospitals reaching high capacity are COVID. So, a lot of hospitalizations aren’t pertaining to COVID. What I would also note, and I’m glad-
Reporter: So, the COVID hospitalizations is not because of COVID?
Kayleigh McEnany: Well, a lot of it is elective surgeries and other surgeries that have opened up. About 10 to 40% in the hospitals reaching capacity are COVID related. But I’m glad that you asked …
You’ll note that she didn’t deny that some of rising hospitalization rates (at least 10-40% according to what she said Dr. Birx told her) were due to the Wuhan coronavirus.
You wouldn’t know that if you simply read Rupar’s tweet and didn’t watch the video and/or read the transcript, though. Here’s what he said about it:
Kayleigh McEnany suggests elective surgeries are driving an increase in US hospitalizations, not Covid pic.twitter.com/alu4pVY4G3

I pointed out to him that he was once again spreading fake news for the supposedly “objective” journalists and Democrats who frequently retweet him to run with as though factual:
This is literally not what she said at all. But great job passing along another round of fake news for supposedly "objective" journalists to grab on to as though factual, Aaron. https://t.co/MMNHqqFaV4

Not long after I wrote that tweet, I came across the reaction to Rupar’s comments from former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean, who clearly took Rupar’s word as the gospel truth and called McEnany a “dope” in response – all over her saying something that in reality she did not:
This is more than a lie, she is also stupid enough to think anyone will believe this. I knew from Day one she was a liar but I didn’t know she was a dope. https://t.co/OaSTs3Gcyx
— Howard Dean (@GovHowardDean) July 9, 2020
So who’s really the “dope” here – McEnany or Dean? The answer is pretty clear:
The person who is lying here is you and the person you retweeted (Aaron Rupar). His characterization of her comments is not what she said at all. Try WATCHING the videos he tweets next time instead of taking his word for it. https://t.co/vS9srwRdXc

In the words of the failed 2004 presidential candidate himself: “Yearrrrgh!“
