CNN’s Chris Cillizza once infamously declared that “Reporters don’t root for a side. Period.” But unfortunately for him, his colleagues at his own network and those at rival networks and print news outlets prove him wrong literally every day of the week.
Cillizza himself has shown on more than one occasion his tendency to pick a political side.
The latest example comes by way of MSNBC, where “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd was talking to NBC News correspondent and fellow MSNBC anchor Kasie Hunt Wednesday about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) after he officially dropped out of the 2020 Democratic presidential primary race.
During the segment, Todd excitedly talked about how “Bernie Sanders’ proposals may be meeting their moment” at a time when millions of Americans are out of work and struggling in the midst of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
Todd, a supposedly “objective” journalist, opined that “there is an appetite for government to be more involved” right now, which he insinuated was a good indication that Sanders was a man ahead of his time.
Hunt appeared to be in agreement, saying “a Republican president signed a $2.2 trillion rescue package” not long after “Republicans were talking about how Democrats were going to nominate a socialist.”
Todd wrapped up the segment by stating in so many words that in a few years, Sanders would be touted as a visionary for some of his ideas. “The pandemic hits and suddenly the Bernie Sanders vision suddenly became an answer for a lot of Americans,” Todd giddily remarked.

The problem with their “reporting” on this possibility is that a lot of folks are going to get “woke” in the right way the longer this goes on, because local and state governments, and the federal government to a certain extent, are overreaching on many levels. And people who normally don’t pay much attention one way or the other will now because it’s impacting them personally.
In any event, if nothing else, Todd and Hunt proved in that segment that if you give network political news anchors enough time, eventually they reveal which side they’re on.
