When severe weather events are fast approaching land and threatening hundreds of thousands of lives, the last thing on any decent person’s mind is rooting for property destruction as a way of political revenge.
Unfortunately, former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell is not one of those decent people.
Alex Parker wrote earlier this week about a tweet Campbell posted on Wednesday in response to another tweet that labeled Hurricane Dorian as a “#majorhurricane threat” to Florida’s east coast, and to President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Here’s what Campbell, an apparent Trump Derangement Sufferer, said:

Though it’s been a long time since Campbell was Canada’s PM (1993), she still plays a very active role in Canadian politics at the highest levels:
Ms. Campbell has chaired the Independent Advisory Board on Supreme Court appointments since 2016. The panel of legal scholars is tasked with recommending potential candidates for seats on the Supreme Court to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Campbell, who was the Prime Minister for only 132 days, later clarified on Thursday that she didn’t actually want anyone at the Palm Beach resort to get hurt (thank goodness). But she still took the opportunity to blame Trump for the hurricane itself because of course:
And no, I don’t wish anyone, anywhere, the horror of being hit by a Category 4 Hurricane. But not everyone can have the protection of a fortress like Mar a Lago, built to be hurricane-proof! Trump will not bear the cost of his immoral abdication of the climate challenge! https://t.co/yvSWZuuTLL

She also initially told her critics to “get a grip”:
As there are in Puerto Rico- sorry you don’t get snark- but Trump’s indifference to suffering is intolerable! Wd also help if he tackled climate change which is making hurricanes more destructive! Instead, he will remove limits on methane! Get a grip!

Fortunately her original tweet was screencapped because Campbell deleted it Friday morning with this explanation:
I have deleted my tweet about the hurricane & Mar a Lago and sincerely apologize to all it offended. It was intended as sarcasm-not a serious wish of harm. Throwaway lines get a life of their own on Twitter. I shd know better. Mea culpa.

“I …sincerely apologize to all it offended” = not an actual apology.
Actor Allen Covert was one of the more high-profile Twitter users to blast Campbell’s comments:
My family lives about 10 miles from Mar-a-Lago so all of you people cheering the fact that Dorian might wipe it out can kindly go fuck yourselves. You have sunk so low in your hatred that you have become worse than what you hate.

As of this writing, here’s the latest projected path for Dorian:

Please take a moment to say some prayers for all in its path, including my beloved home state. 🙁
