We are now into Day 3 of the Great Debate that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) started Monday night during an Instagram Live video in which she absurdly declared, without evidence, that the U.S. was “running concentration camps” on the southern border.
A quick recap:
The freshman lawmaker also said President Trump is a fascist, underscoring her argument that what is happening in the United States has parallels to Nazi Germany and other fascist states.
“The U.S. is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are,” the freshman lawmaker said. “If that doesn’t bother you … I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that ‘never again’ means something.
“The fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the ‘Home of the Free’ is extraordinarily disturbing, and we need to do something about it,” she added.
Ocasio-Cortez has been blasted by a number of high-profile Republicans and even some Holocaust experts for her false concentration camp comparison, but she’s continued to double, triple, and quadruple down on her absurd claims.
Because she is never, ever wrong, you know.
She continued again today on her Twitter feed, and in what was probably her 2,057th tweet on the matter (only a slight exaggeration), here’s what she said:
The US ran concentration camps before, when we rounded up Japanese people during WWII.
It is such a shameful history that we largely ignore it.
These camps occur throughout history. Many refuse to learn from that shame, but here we are today.
We have an obligation to end them. https://t.co/sYicLdcaA9

In her next tweet, however, she inadvertently revealed that when it comes to the humanitarian crisis at the border, she is a big part of the problem. Why? Because she and other House Democrats who want to play politics with border security in a critical election year won’t budge when it comes to President Trump’s funding request:
Not one dime should go to DHS for building these camps as they detain children & families.
Congressional appropriations season is now. That means it’s 💰 time – we‘re voting to fund federal government programs.
We should not fund the caging of kids & families. Pretty simple.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 19, 2019
It’s worth noting that the mainstream media hasn’t called her out on her refusal to move on funding, nor have they called out the other members of her party who agree with her that not a dime should go to funding that would help alleviate the humanitarian crisis until her/their demands are met.
Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot, and Republicans refused to authorize funding to help ease a humanitarian crisis involving children. They’d be called cruel, child killers, and every other vile name in the book – not only by a mainstream media who continuously gives AOC a pass on these very issues but by AOC herself.
A Twitter follower pegged the situation perfectly:
Jfc. It's not hatred or bigotry to enforce a country's laws and borders. It's not hatred to make sure the children being brought across the border actually BELONG with the person accompanying them. It's like liberals actually WANT kids to be trafficked and abused.

Our system is broken, and the people who can fix it – Congress – would rather score political points on Twitter than do their damn jobs and write some legislation. With approx 4800 fraudulent "families" trying to use kids to cross the border just this year, it's a BIG problem.

Yep.
It’s so frustrating to see the leftists who tell us our “words matter” and level “incitement” charges when we call out Rep. Ilhan Omar’s anti-Semitism (for example) then turn around and say that their words don’t matter when describing detention centers at the border as concentration camps.
It’s even more frustrating when the mainstream media refuses to hold them to the same standards on their words and actions (or lack thereof in this case) they would Republicans in similar situations.
In any event, as I noted previously, Sen. Mitch McConnell plans on calling the Democratic party’s bluff in the coming days on the $4.5 billion request, which should be interesting to watch.
