NY's Updated Abortion Law Means Man Won't Get Charged In Murder Of Unborn Child

Can't people who support babies and Pinterest get along?

A man who allegedly murdered his pregnant ex-girlfriend won’t be charged in the death of her unborn child thanks to New York’s recently updated abortion law.

The NY Post reports:

Prosecutors initially included a charge of abortion against the Queens man arrested Friday in his pregnant girlfriend’s murder — but rescinded it because of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new Reproductive Health Act.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown sent out a press release saying Anthony Hobson, 48, would be charged with second-degree abortion as well as murder in Sunday’s fatal stabbing of Jennifer Irigoyen, 35.

But a DA spokeswoman later told The Post that the abortion charge “was repealed by the Legislature, and this is the law as it exists today.”

The victim’s name is Jennifer Irigoyen. She was 35-years-old at the time of her murder. In addition to being 5 months pregnant, she also had a 12-year-old son from a prior relationship.

Studies show that unborn children can feel pain at 20 weeks, and possibly as soon as the 8 week mark.

According to the Queens Chronicle, Irigoyen had stab wounds to her neck and torso when she was found by police early last Sunday morning.

Per another NY Post report, a surveillance camera captured the murder on video and according to someone who saw the footage, the unborn child appeared to be the target:

The killer targeted the 35-year-old woman’s stomach, according to the building super, who said she watched surveillance video footage that captured the murder.

“He’s got a knife! He’s going to kill the baby!” shouted five-months-pregnant Jennifer Irigoyen around 1 a.m. as her attacker pulled her from her third-floor Ridgewood walk-up and down the stairs to the building’s entranceway, horrified witness Maurice Roman Zereoue told The Post.

[…]

A neighbor who only gave her first name, Kristin, said she heard a man and Irigoyen arguing loudly and then the victim “yelling … about wanting to protect her baby.’’

Building super Lisa Raymos said surveillance video showed that “The first time, he stabbed her in the stomach.’’

Signed by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Jan. 22., the Reproductive Health Act no longer criminalizes abortion at all – whether the baby is wanted or not (bolded emphasis added):

The RHA removes abortion from the state’s penal code altogether; the homicide statute still defines a “person” as “a human being who has been born and is alive.” Killing a baby once born was and is still considered a homicide.

I remember the video that circulated of all the pro-abortion legislators who stood up, applauded, and loudly cheered as Cuomo signed the bill that legalizes unborn baby butchery up until the time of birth into law on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Jennifer Irigoyen had rights. Up until January 22nd, 2019 her unborn baby had rights, too. And think about this: Had Ms. Irigoyen miraculously survived, she would have had to live with the fact that the person who killed her unborn baby would not be punished for it.

That’s appalling. Inhumane. And not “pro-woman” at all.
