#BelieveAllWomen: Dem Senators Feign Ignorance On #MeToo Allegations Against Fairfax

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few days or just don’t spend much time following political news, you’ve heard about the sexual assault allegations that have been made against Virginia’s Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax (D).

To recap what’s been alleged:

The woman described a sexual encounter that began with consensual kissing and ended with a forced act that left her crying and shaken. She said Fairfax guided her to the bed, where they continued kissing, and then at one point she realized she could not move her neck. She said Fairfax used his strength to force her to perform oral sex.

Fairfax told reporters this week that the 2004 encounter was consensual, and has threatened to sue anyone who continues to push what he describes as an “uncorroborated smear.”

The most high-profile, Democrat-friendly mainstream media outlets in the country have reported on this story, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, and NBC News.

So with that in mind, you’d think Democrats in the US Senate would have read or otherwise heard of this story now, and be willing to share their opinions on it, right?

Wrong.

The Daily Caller‘s Henry Rodgers walked around with a microphone Tuesday trying to get Democratic Senators on the record sharing their thoughts about the allegations against Fairfax. Curiously enough, the ones he talked to either say they hadn’t heard the story, knew only a very few details about it, or ignored his questions altogether.

From his report:

“I haven’t even looked at the details about that. I really haven’t. I just know the high level. I haven’t really looked at the details about any of that. It’s a tough situation but I just don’t look at the details. It’s just not something that I’ve focused on,” Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones said to TheDCNF.

“Well I think we’ve got to get more information at this point. I don’t have anything other than just the very initial information. Certainly it needs to be taken seriously. But, we’ll have to get more information,” Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow told TheDCNF.

“I don’t know who Justin Fairfax is,” California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein told TheDCNF. When she was reminded who he was, she responded by saying, “I don’t want to get into that.”

“You know I sort of left most of this to Tim and Mark who have been following that,” Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy told TheDCNF, speaking about the two Democratic Virginia Senators and not saying if he believes the accuser.

Potential 2020 presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was perhaps the most cagey of all, refusing to say whether or not he believes the allegations. He later pretended to be on a phone call to avoid the question again.

What is going on?

This is not just a local issue. This is a national story with national implications. As noted earlier, broadcast, print, and digital media news outlets that Democrats normally live and breathe by have reported on this story.

The WaPo in particular has written about it extensively the last couple of days because they’ve had to defend their reputation against accusations that they deliberately sat on this story when they first heard about it a over a year ago because Fairfax is a Democrat.

Everybody has heard of this story.

Democrats are the kings of making local yokels who have no statewide or national influence within the GOP whatsoever the “face” of the party when those people behave badly.

Democrats are also Academy Award winners when it comes to jumping on unsubstantiated allegations that could be potentially damaging to Republicans and their judicial nominees, as we saw with their shameful treatment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

But a developing story involving a Lt. Governor who is considered a rising star within the Democratic party and who could be the next governor of Virginia if Northam steps down is not even on the radar of Senate Democrats?

Don’t buy it.

They know about this story. They just don’t want to talk about it. Because it distracts from The Agenda™.

Democrats aren’t so quick to sink a person’s hard-earned reputation when one of their own goes under the #MeToo microscope, are they? This should be a lesson learned for them but sadly, it won’t be.
