CASE UPDATE: Hours ago #ChicagoPolice detectives located a surveillance camera that shows potential persons of interest wanted for questioning in reference to the assault & battery of Empire actor. A community alert w/ photos is being constructed and will be disseminated shortly.

ABC 7 Chicago‘s Rob Elgas says that the video the images were captured from doesn’t show the alleged assault:

For those just hearing about this story, here’s a brief recap of what’s alleged to have happened to the “Empire” actor – via Red State‘s Brad Slager:

As was widely reported yesterday and throughout the evening, singer/actor Jussie Smollett was admitted into a hospital following an incident where the entertainer said he was attacked on the street in Chicago by a pair of assailants. The star of the Fox drama “Empire” who is openly gay said they used racial and homophobic epithets as they beat him, poured bleach on him, and wrapped a rope around his neck.

Outrage has flooded in, more so once the details became the assailants were whites wearing red Donald Trump hats, and were said to have shouted “MAGA Country” during the assault. A wide array of politicians, celebrities, and members of the media have risen to voice outrage at this attack.

As Brad astutely pointed out in his piece this morning, there are a lot of questions and unknowns so far about this case, so it’s best to take a “wait and see” approach before jumping to conclusions – because recent events have reaffirmed to us on how travelling down that road can turn out badly.

As soon as the police department makes the community alert and photos of the potential persons of interest available to the public, this post will be updated to share that information.

UPDATE: The images have just been released:

Police are asking that anyone who may have any information on the alleged assault to send anonymous tips via this link or call 312-747-8382.
