Just 24 hours after Michael Reinoehl was killed by police trying to take him into custody, the action between rioters and police on the streets of Portland seemed to be stepped-up in intensity on Friday night.

The protesters began the night in the Portland suburbs, not downtown.  There doesn’t seem to have been any distinct effort on the part of the protesters to make the night’s activities “about” Reinoehl, but there is no question that he had been a “fixture” at these protests for many weeks prior to the events on Thursday near Olympia, Washington.

Earlier in the day on Friday, the Multnomah County District Attorney released the Criminal Complaint that had been signed on Thursday charging Reinoehl with murder in the shooting death last weekend of Aaron “Jay” Danielson in downtown Portland shortly after a Pro-Trump caravan of cars had gone through.  Danielson and another man were walking alone — with Danielson carrying a can of bear mace and an asp-style extendable baton — when they were confronted by Reinoehl.  Still images from a heretofore unseen surveillance camera showed Reinoehl make efforts to get behind Danielson in the moments just prior to the shooting.  The images showing his movements are at p. 16-17 of the Warrant’s Affidavit.

On Friday night, the police seemed to have little “patience” for protesters.  The enforcement action to clear the streets, including making numerous arrests, was aggressive and seemed to come earlier in the evening.
