It is quite humorous when the left lawns over someone for something that someone on the right has done for years.  Though Dan Crenshaw and Ted Cruz have been rocking the beard look for a long time now, Politico hasn’t reported it.   It wasn’t until soy boy Trudeau grew out his whiskers during the COVID-19 lockdowns that suddenly having a beard is story-worthy.

From Politico:

“At the very beginning of this interminable year, Justin Trudeau grew a beard. The beard was Significant, a symbol of a once-youthful prime minister who was now older and wiser and battle-scarred. Many headlines were written. It was a simpler time, when we had nothing better to do than debate the merits of facial hair as an indicator of gravitas.”

Apparently, according to Politico, having a beard is a sign of being a wise and battle-scarred individual.  Aside from making numerous comments about Cruz’s appearance when he grew his beard in 2018, there were no comments about his wisdom at the time.  If standards are standards, and growing a beard is a sign of this personal growth, then it is only fair that Senator Cruz is bestowed with the same wisdom that has been given to Trudeau over his furry-faced decision.

“Some argue Trudeau grew into that beard this year. In the Toronto Star, Chantal Hébert claims Trudeau has become more “cold-blooded,” while the Liberal government’s “days of being associated with unicorns and rainbows are definitively behind it.” In Maclean’s, Shannon Proudfoot reminds us that Trudeau will turn 50 next year and will likely head into his next election campaign “as a grizzled veteran, and not some impetuous wunderkind.”

If these same rules apply to Cruz, has he now garnered the image that gives him Presidential chops in 2024?  If Politico’s rules hold, that should be true.  Many speculate whether or not Cruz can break the clean-shaven stereotype to win the Presidency.  The last President with a beard was Republican William Howard Taft, though Truman had a beard for a short period of time during 1948.  As a wise and battle-scarred bearded individual myself, I can say that I believe the time has come for a bearded American President.  Cruz/Crenshaw 2024?
